In 1827, a gunsmith named John Browning patented his design for a firearm that could be fired with a cartridge. This new gun was called the Rifleman and it became very popular. It had a long barrel that allowed it to shoot Bullets through an overflowing magazine which increased its accuracy. In 1859, the US Army purchased 1,000 Riflemen rifles from Browning’s company. The Gun Control Act of 1934 passed by Congress banned handguns in America but this did not stop people from purchasing firearms for their personal use. The Second Amendment of the US Constitution protects Americans’ right to bear arms and these firearms can still be possessed legally today.

In 1842, John Wills founded a post office in what would become Kirkwood and named it after himself - WILLIAMSTOWN POINT. The town continued to grow quickly and by 1865 had reached its peak with over 2,000 residents. However, during the American Civil War, Kirkwood became one of Joplin's most heavily fortified towns due to its strategic location on both sides of the state line between Union and Confederate forces. By war's end, only 100 residents remained in Kirkwood compared to 2,500 when it began; but due to its strategic importance within Joplin city limits and because so many businesses had relocated within Joplin during wartime (particularly those that did business with Confederate munitions), KIRKWOOD retains some residual military significance today despite having no military buildings located within its boundaries. During Reconstruction following World War II, Kirkwood experienced rapid growth as more people moved into the area from other parts of Missouri thanks to new housing developments such as Maple Bluff Estates and Columbia Heights development near downtown Joplin – all directly benefiting from federal stimulus money allocated for post-war reconstruction initiatives in Missouri . This growth trend continued through subsequent decades until present day when there are now fewer than 500 residents living within walking distance of central business district - making KIRKWOOD one ofJoplin’s smallest municipalities by population size

Kirkwood is a town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,481 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Kirkwood was David Day in 1838. The town was named for George Kirkpatrick, who had donated land to the community. A school and post office were established in 1839, and the first store was built on Main Street in 1840. In 1857, John Mears opened a general store and wagon shop on Main Street that became the nucleus of today's business district around which downtown Kirkwood developed. By 1860, there were five stores and 20 residents in Kirkwood. A train station was built on First Avenue west of Main Street in 1915 to serve as an interchange for trains traveling north or south from Springfield or St Louis. The depot served as the center of local commerce until 1990 when it closed down due to economic problems and building changes within the town limits since then have led to its current designation as a ghost town by many residents (though not all). In recent years some restoration work has been done at the depot which has made it possible to visit during daytime hours without having to leave town altogether; however most visitors arrive after dark because there are no streetlights anywhere within city limits! In 1925-1926, Kirkwood saw its first professional baseball game with play taking place between Armoury Park (now Branson Ballpark) and Kansas City over two days at Euclid Stadium located just east of town off I-435 near present day Interstate 255 across from Missouri State University - making it one of only a few communities in America that saw professional baseball before 1920 when Professional Baseball Association began operations nationally! In 2006-2007 KFC Busch Stadium located adjacent to BRanson Ballpark hosted minor league baseball games up through Class AAA level including three full seasons each year!
