Kirkwood is a small town in the St. Louis metropolitan area, located east of downtown and north of the University of Missouri campus. The population was 18,692 as of the 2010 census. In late 2009 local officials announced that they were considering annexing neighboring towns of Springdale and White Oak for development into a single city with a population of 100,000 people – something that had been considered unlikely since both towns have more than twice the population of Kirkwood proper! However it appears that annexation may not be possible without vote by all residents due to concerns about economic impact on their smaller communities… In any event Kirkwood will continue to grow as one of central Missouri's most vibrant small towns!
