In 1905, when tornado damage cost $1 million to repair throughout central Missouri due to severe winds caused by a powerful storm over Arkansas on May 20th-21st (known locally as "The Great Storm"), James Auld decided to donate all proceeds from his insurance policies taken out during that time to help rebuild local businesses which suffered extensive damage as well as provide financial assistance to low-income citizens across centralMO through various programs such as food stamps and welfare benefits until 1978 when those same programs were discontinued entirely statewide due to budget cuts within then state government - leaving many residents struggling along with no easy solution or recourse should another natural disaster strike their community again in the future without any form governmental assistance available now or soon thereafter!
