Kirksville is a small town in northeast Missouri, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kirksville, MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Town of Kirksville was organized in 1836 from parts of Monroe and Webster counties. The first settler in what is now Kirksville was John Pendarvis and his family. The name came from an Indian word meaning "place where cows are milked." In 1839, a post office called Kirksville was established, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1841, George Washington Carver moved to the area and began to cultivate corn for local mills. He named his farm after President George Washington and his wife MarthaWashington Carver (1796-1851). The Village of Kirksville formed on October 15, 1888 from parts of neighboring Monroe County. At this time there were only about seventy people living within the boundaries of what would become known as the Village of Kirksville. On February 26, 1907, an act providing for creation of townships within Jackson Township passed by the Missouri General Assembly and signed by Governor James Kossuth became effective; as a result, all residents within Jackson Township were required to move into newly created townships located eastward along Highway 24 gangway extending southwestward from I-70 across Missouri State Line into Kansas County; accordingly on April 1st 1907 all residents within village limits applied for incorporation into either their new township or Kansas County according to law then existing. As a result of this annexation process some residents who had lived inside village limits since 1888 decided not to incorporate but continue living under municipal jurisdiction which they saw as more comfortable given their limited resources compared to those enjoyed by their old township counterparts. This decision likely reflects dissatisfaction with recent changes in economic development patterns adjacent to village boundaries which have seen high-dollar jobs moving away from town center while also reducing access to vital public services such as schools and health clinics close by

Kirksville, Missouri is a small town located in far east Missouri. It was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in the early 1800s. The town has been around since 1837 and is now an important agricultural center. Kirksville was the site of the final battle of the American Civil War, which occurred on August 6, 1865. The Union army decisively defeated Confederate forces and ended the war. After the war, many Scots-Irish immigrants moved to Kirksville to start anew. Some of these immigrants formed a Protestant church there and continued to live there until 1973 when it merged with another Presbyterian church to form United Church of Christ (UCC). Today, Kirksville remains an important community with strong Scottish-Irish cultural ties.
Kirksville was founded in 1786 by Captain Samuel Kirks and his wife, Deborah. The town is named for St. Nicholas, the patron saint of Europe. In 1815, Kirksville became a city after being separated from Missouri's other settlements.
