Kirksville, Missouri is a small town located in Union County, Missouri. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Kirksville is known for its gun parts history and museums. Kirksville began as a trading post in 1811. It became an important market place for corn and other goods during the early 1800s. In 1836, the town was acquired by David Dudley from Sidney Morton of Springfield, Illinois. Dudley renamed it Kirksville after himself and his father-in-law James Caldwell. The first store opened in 1837 on Main Street. Gun Parts History Museum: The Gun Parts History Museum is open every day except Sunday from 10am to 4pm (closed Mondays). Admission is free for all visitors!
