The Kirksleys were the first white settlers in the area. In 1870, the town had a population of just over 100 people. By 1910, the population had grown to 2,500 people. During World War II, Kirksville became one of the largest American cities to support military operations. The city's economy boomed during the war years as goods and materials were shipped in from overseas. After the war ended, Kirksville began to experience modest growth until the late 1990s when its population reached over 10,000 people again.
Kirksville is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. Kirksville is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Kirksville was James Kirkland who arrived in 1814. He founded a log cabin on the west side of the creek that became known as Kirk's Ferry landing. In 1826, Thomas Fenton bought the land from James Kirkland and built a mill on the stream which he named for his father-in-law, Daniel Fenton. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1868 and replaced by a gristmill operated by Matson & Gamble until it went out of business in 1922. Kirk's Ferry Landing served as an important stop on the Underground Railroad because fugitive slaves could walk to nearby Springfield or Lebanon before being transported to Centralia, Illinois orKansas City. white settlers also used Kirksville as their home base during World War I when they were unable to leave their homes due to military service or prohibitionism; many soldiers stayed here after returning from Europe. In 1940, when Stonington et al., Inc., moved their operations to Lock Haven Township because of competition from other manufacturers of automotive parts and equipment in that township, Kirksville became one of several villages within Lock Haven Township (the others being White Sands Junction and Westport) that refused annexation into either Lock Haven Township proper or Stonington Village until finally annexed in 1951 Today much of what once made up downtown KirksVILLE has been demolished: only some frame buildings remain standing now dating back to 1870s including both the old courthouse and jail which are still occasionally used for storage purposes; while most other structures have been torn down completely such as Mrs."N" Green's grocery store building (built c1910), Parsonage Tavern (1893), Lawley Chapel (1905), Masonic Temple (1898), First Presbyterian Church (1907), Girdershins Brewery Company Building (1899) and Post Office Building (1920). However just across Main Street from where most original buildings stood there remains today a large park/arena with tennis courts/badminton Courts/ playground etc., originally called "Eagle Park". It should be noted that not all structures listed above were actually located where they are currently situated: for example Masonic Temple may have been located near Main Street between Girdershins Brewery Company Building and Mrs."N" Green's grocery store rather than across it like currently stated; however this building still stands today albeit devoid of any architectural features normally associated with its namesake temple - possibly evidence that developers often changed locations without properly preserving older properties?

Kirksville is named after David Kirks, who donated land for the town site. It was formally incorporated as a city on December 4, 1872. The city has since grown to include a surrounding rural area with a population of 11,773 as of 2017. The first settler in what is now Kirksville was David Kirks. He donated land for the town site on March 14, 1851. The original town had a population of only 10 people. The first Mayor of Kirksville was John Aiken and the first City Council member were Wm. Hays and Jno. Laddsberry Jr.. On October 7, 1872, citizens voted to make their city official by subscribing to an ordinance naming it "Kirkstown." The early years were difficult for Kirksville as it competed with nearby towns for tax-collection revenues from settlers living near the new village site. Eventually, however, Kirkshvlle became one of the most prosperous cities inJefferson County due to its strategic location and ample production facilities around which entrepreneurs could build businessessteady economic growth over time In 1954-1955 Municipal Court judge Jno Fenton prosecuted what are known as "the dark days"of racism in Jefferson County when white supremacists attempted to storm three local black churches during religious services
