Kennett is a small town in the east side of Missouri, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson County Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kennett has a total area of 21 square miles (59 km2). The first settler in Kennett was James Witherspoon, who arrived in 1828. He built a cabin on the present day site of the local high school. A post office called Kennett was established in 1831, and remained In operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The town began to grow rapidly after the construction of the Kansas Pacific Railroad by George Clements and associates brought many people to Kennett for work on its tracks. By 1881, Kennett had become an important railroad junction and sawmill town with a population of 2,500 residents. The community experienced rapid growth during this time as new businesses were erected such as schools, churches, stores and warehouses. In 1939, when Stonington Township merged into Jackson County, Kennett became one of its first areas to be included within that larger municipality. During World War II., Kennetts wartime population totaled 1,100 citizens who served in military units including the 97th Infantry Regiment which fought in Normandy and Holland After World War II ended there was much turnover for jobs so that many natives decided to move away from small towns like Kennett because they could find better paying jobs elsewhere near major metropolitan areas like Chicago or St Louis Missouri . However some people still live here todaysome due to their nostalgia for their old hometown while others have moved back because they can find quality job opportunities here

Kennett, Missouri is a small town located in eastern Missouri. The population was 919 at the 2010 census. The land that makes up Kennett was first settled by farmers in the 1840s. In 1851, the state of Missouri granted a tract of land to James Kennett and his wife, Sarah. The Kennetts built a farm on the land and named it after their son, John C. Kennett. The farm grew into what is now Kennett. In 1907, the city of Poplar Bluff founded its own school district which included Kennett. In 1911, Poplar Bluff merged with Jefferson City to form one larger community and became known as Kennett-Jefferson City. In 1922, James Worthy bought property in east Kennett which he used as his home until his death in 1967. He bequeathed all of his land to the town for use as a park and public square. The park includes a large monument dedicated to Mr. Worthy which sits on top of an old cotton gin building that once operated in northeastKennett near where modern day Old Hickory Road meets Ulysses Boulevard

The town grew rapidly due to its location near the national capital of Washington D.C., and by 1860 it had a population of over 2,000 people. In 1871, the railroad arrived in Kennett, which helped to increase the town's population even further. By 1890, Kennett had a population of over 10,000 people.
