In 1881, a group of farmers in Kennett founded the Kennett Rifle and Pistol Club to shoot muzzleloaders. The club first shot at a nearby farmhouse on July 10th, 1881. The Farmers Association met in October to adopt a constitution and by November had organized themselves into a society. In February 1882, the club moved to its present home on County Road 7 near what is now the town of Emerson. The club continued to shoot muzzleloaders until 1886 when they switched to rifle shooting. From 1888-1991, the club hosted an annual rifle competition which attracted top shooters from around Missouri and Illinois. This event was also the origin of the name “the most prestigious rifle championship in America”. In 1991, due to low membership numbers, the Kennett Rifle and Pistol Club merged with another organization called “The Gunfighters” which still hosts their annual rifle competition today.
Kennett is a town in Bollinger County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first settlers in Kennett were Levi and John Purdy who arrived in 1825. They named their new land "Erie Township." In 1838, they donated land to the town of Kennett in memory of their son-in-law, Nicholas Kennett. The name Kennett originated from a place called "Kenny's Knob" on the family farm near present-day Lansingville. From 1840 to 1856, there were six different schools in Kennett: one for white children and two for black children. In 1865, CPRR (Canadian Pacific Railway) built a line through Bollinger County from Topeka to St Louis and installed an engine at what is now known as Station Road (now US Highway 169). This railroad caused great rural development as people started moving into the towns along its route. By 1870, there were over 100 houses in Kennettown and more than 40 businesses had been built since its founding. During World War I, many Bennetts served in various Army units including those who fought at Antietam and Gettysburg; many are still living today including Colonel James Bennet who was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions during that war. During World War II many Bennetts contributed blood to help win the war; some are still alive today such as Captain Norman Erikson who led Company K of the 332nd Infantry Regiment during Operation Overlord when they liberated Arnhem from Nazi forces on 15 May 1945 In 1965 (the same year that Joe Biden became Vice President), ninety percent of all residents were African Americans with only 10 percent being whites according to census figures which has changed very little since then except for increased Hispanic immigration because much of southern Bollinger County was lost to Indian Territory when Kansas moved westward under territorial control

Kennett is a small town in southeastern Missouri, United States. It is located about 20 miles (30 kilometers) northeast of St. Louis and 18 miles (29 kilometers) southeast of Kansas City. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. The first inhabitants of Kennett were the Lenape Native Americans who built their villages along the river bottoms near present-day Kennett Creek. In 1764, Colonel James Knyatt established a military post in what is now Kennett Township. The post was later renamed Fort George Washington after George Washington's triumph over the French at the Battle of Yorktown in 1781. In 1802, Samuel Fenton came to Kennett and organized a store and tavern called The Post Office House. He also founded the Methodist Episcopal church in what is now part of town. By 1820, there were nine churches in town with a total population of 534 individuals; by 1830, that number had grown to twenty-one with a population of 2,291 individuals; by 1840 it had increased to thirty-six with a population of 3,062 individuals; and by 1850 it had reached 4,052 individuals. On July 7, 1861, Confederate forces attacked Union soldiers stationed at Fort Donelson on Lake Doniphan outside St Louis during the American Civil War. The attack killed more than 600 Union troops and wounded many more before withdrawing under cover of darkness back into Missouri without achieving any significant objectives other than causing extensive destruction and loss to both sides. After the war ended in 1865, Kennett became an important center for agricultural production as well as hosting several large plantations such as thoseowned by John Danksworth and Isaac Dickenson Sr.; these properties would continue to produce crops until they went out OFFLINE due to factors such as hazardous weather conditions or natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina.[1] In 1925–1926 local farmers formed what became known as "The Prominence League" which lobbied for state legislation granting them exclusive rights to grow corn ontheir lands while still allowing other farmers access to their products during this time period[2]. With this new marketing arrangement Farmers could control how much corn they could sell whilestill keeping some percentage offthe market so that prices remained affordable for everyone involved[3]. After World War II most farmland went through rotation so that cropping patterns changed regularly from year-to-year making it difficult for larger landowners(whose land stayed idle longer)to maintain any typeof monopoly on agriculture[4]; however smaller farmers have continuedtryingto do something similar today through syndication agreements which allow multiple farmspecifically bought & paidfor)[5]. Today muchofKennett' founding commerce& industry has been replacedby serviceproviding industries such as construction& healthcare buta strongportionofthevillage remainsbasedonagriculturalproduction
In 1820, the first white settler in Kennett, Missouri was Capt. John C. Kennett and his family. The town was founded on the banks of the Mississippi River by Keith Simonds in 1824. In 1827, Colonel Samuel J. Butler acquired land east of the river and named it Butler County after himself.
