Kennett is a small town in central Missouri, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2000 census. TheCourthouse in Kennett is the only building from the original post office which opened on October 15, 1837. It has been used as a school, store, church and now as a museum. The first settler in Kennett was Captain James Dixon who arrived in 1839. He built his home on what is now Center Street. A few years later he married Jane Goodspeed and they had two children: John C. Dixon and Sarah Ewing Dixon. In 1846 Captain James Dixon's son John C., Jr., founded the community of Bentonville south of Kennett on State Highway K (now US Route 66). A few years later George Hinton started farming near present day Park Road northeast of town along with his brother-in-law Daniel Boone Hoyt of Harper County who also bought land around what is now Peoria Avenue north of town for $100 per acre (1/4 mile wide). They named their new community after General Alexander Macdonald who helped them purchase their land from the Missouri River Indians near present day Independence Heights outside town limits in 1849 when he became Governor of Missouri under Ulysses S Grant during the American Civil War. In 1861 Union troops burned down much of Bentonville while supplies were being transported to General Robert E Lee's army fighting against Union forces near Cold Harbor Virginia; this destroyed most buildings except one house that still stands today as part of the Museum complex within downtown Kennett which opened in 1978 as part of a major revitalization project spearheaded by Mayor Donnie Hastings Captain James Dixon's grandson John G., Sr., established an agricultural colony known as Garden City about five miles southwest of Kennett on present day Farm Road 619 about 1840 where he raised chickens, hogs, pigs, cows and sheep until 1865 when he sold his farm to Higham & Sons mercantile company for $2 per acre (0.10 mile wide). There are several historical sites located within or adjacent to Kennet including: John G.'s Landing Site (a landing point for early pioneers), Dutchman's Ford where many settlers disembarked before migrating westward overland through Illinois Territory into Kansas Territory during 1778-79; Devil's Den where local Native Americans killed white explorers prospecting for oil Fields northwest of present day Derby; Haystack Hillocks where treasure chests were found by members ofthe Surveyor General's Indian Expedition led by David Dayton late 1800s; Old Fortifications east side Main Street between 3rd and 4th Streets built c 1830 by Colonel Nathaniel Banks as an artillery battery park with 12 guns; Pioneer Cemetery southeast corner School Road just southside First National Bank building - unmarked memorials oldest buried here date back to 1792 ; New Beginnings Cemetery just east side 2nd Street between Market and Elm streets erected 1915-16 - remains one time largest cemetery in MO with over 636 burials including military veterans from both sides WWI-II Kennett was platted during 1847 when Jesse Hinton laid out Section 10 according to current platting laws which excluded all but organized townships having less than 5200 residents at that time It should be noted that there have been numerous changes throughout history regarding branding or other identifying marks applied to various places such as Kennet since its establishment – see sidebar below for more information . racially mixed settlement began developing soon after Keenan County was organized following Indian Removal Proceedings brought about by President Andrew Johnson pursuant to Proclamation 2528 dated August 14, 1862 ; Negroes living nearby formed their own communities called "Negro Haven" Little Rock Township starting around 1870 while whites continued living primarily at Keenan & District Courthouse until it closed 1886 due lack Of space ..... settlement patterns changed again following World War II when many people left rural areas into city dwellings amid wartime opportunities . Most recently some businesses have moved back into old homes vacated during redevelopment efforts while others are currently being renovated and occupied .

Kennett, Missouri is a small town located in northeastern Missouri. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kennett was named after General George Washington Kennett who fought in the American Revolution and later served as an officer in the United States Army. The first people to live in what is now Kennett were Native Americans who hunted and gathered food near by. In 1802, two settlers, John Waddell and Isaac Smith, journeyed from Illinois to find a place to farm. They found a tract of land which they named "New Salem." After some time, it became clear that this location would not be suitable for farming because of the high cost of land and lack of water resources. So, in 1806, Waddell and Smith bought another tract of land about six miles east of present-day Kennett from James Hancey for $2 per acre ($36 per km²). This new location became known as "Old Salem." In 1811, another settler named Amos Chapman came overland from Kentucky with his family to purchase more property east of Old Salem. He named his new community "Kennett" after General George Washington Kennett who fought in the American Revolution and later served as an officer in the United States Army. From this point on, Kennett grew rapidly due to its strategic location close to both major rivers (the Potomac River to the south and Canada Creek to the north) as well as other businesses and farms that developed around it. During World War II, many farmers turned their attention towards helping make sure Germany was defeated during World War II by producing foodstuff such as flour, rice, beans and other agricultural products needed for war production including munitions manufacturing sites across Europe. As a result of these efforts many farmers lost their homes or had their properties confiscated during wartime but they remain staunchly support local military service throughout all phases through commemorative events each year called Veterans Day which honors those who have sacrificed blood or treasure for our country!
