That year saw also significant changes within its downtown core: The Union League Club moved from its original location on Market to 30th & Vine Streets; Tiffany & Co., which operated out of a small building on Fourth Avenue between Grand and Locust Streets for only two years before moving into its own storefront on Seventh Avenue near Interstate 45mph (US-40) joined forces with Ladd-Peebles-McCoy Camera Company to create “the world’s first camera store”;[2] while Post Office Square—a mix of commercial buildings housing various departments including mail service and law enforcement—became an important center for civic life.[3] With growth came increased costs associated with accommodating all that traffic: In 1909–10 General Electric constructed a new steel plant adjacent to Candler Park (now known as Kemper Arena), creating what is now one of metro KC's most iconic landmarks;[4] while other large employers soon followed suit: Bethlehem Steel Corporation built an aluminum smelter at Comanche Lake outside town in 1914,[5] Monsanto produced pesticide products here beginning in 1928,[6][7][8][9] Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Menard department store opened its doors on Main Street just north of Candler Park in 1927,[10] Brown Bros.' grocery stores opened their doors across from Chase Field (now Busch Stadium) after being bought by KKR less than two years earlier;[11][12] while Jack Smithson erected his famous Watchtower Building across from Union Station just east of I-45 mph (US-40).[13],[14](This article does not include information about Royals' ballpark.) During World War II KC experienced someof its worst violence ever – over 100 people were killed during a three day period starting on April 15th 1945 when Japanese civilians were brought into town for internment during wartime.[15][16]: however overall crime rates dropped following hostilities ended although there has been occasional skirmishes between rival gangs since then such as this recent shooting incident which took place last weekendnight outside Westport High School:[17]: all things considered KC remains one of safest cities within 1/3 mile radius

In the 1920s, Kansas City became one of the most difficult cities to deal with during Prohibition because of its large alcohol market. It eventually recovered during the post- prohibition era and has become an important cultural and economic center since then.
