Today, KC remains an important cultural destination with a diverse range of attractions including art galleries, museums, theaters, music venues and restaurants; its downtown has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006.

After years of economic decline and affordable housing shortages began to develop throughout KCMO during the late 21st century, however, revitalization efforts have seen recent renewal (including construction of downtown's first high-rise building) that has led to significant new development withinKansas City
Kansas City was founded by a group of Mormons in 1855. The city became an important center for the cotton industry and declined after the American Civil War. It regained some of its former prominence during the 1920s as a financial center and commercial center. Kansas City has been home to several professional sports teams, including the Chiefs and Royals, as well as a number of other institutions of higher education.
