Kansas City is a city in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 1836, businessman Andrew Jackson moved his family from Tennessee to Independence Township to locate their new cotton plantation there; they named it after him – Jackson Place – later moving to other plantations across the river until their final sale in 1907 to Isaac Pate & Sons Brewing Company for $5 million ($ as of 2019). In 1850s through 1860s many white men emigrated to Kansas Territory due to gold discoveries there during that time period; these people are sometimes called "Gold Rush Kansas Citians." Many landed on what is now Main Street in downtown KCMO – one such man was James Fenton who founded Fenton's Brewery here in 1867 which became one of America's first brewpubs The city proper began forming slowly with early settlers mostly being farmers or traders looking for access to water rights or land grants from Indian tribes that had been living near them for centuries.
