In 1930, Colt-Winchester Corporation merged with Remington Arms Co., Incorporated to form Remington Arms and Ammunition Corporporated. In 1949, Remington Arms and Ammunition Corporporated merged with Smith & Wesson Holding Company Incorporated to form Smith & Wesson Corporation.
Joplin was founded in 1837 and became a city in 1865. The University of Missouri was founded in 1847, and Joplin became the first university town in Missouri. The city hosted the 1904 Summer Olympics. Joplin is now a small community located about 25 miles east of St. Louis on Interstate 44. The population of Joplin during the 2010 census was 21,869. The history of Joplin starts with two men, James Ketchum and Nathan Bedford Forrest, who were looking for land to homestead in 1837. They found some land on the edge of what is now Joplin and began to build their cabin there. In 1840, they started a farm called "Ketchum's Ferry" which still stands today on the south side of I-44 just west of downtown Joplin. In 1861, when Missouri Became an United States State, Joplin became part of that state and it had no mayor or government other than local officials appointed by the governor. The only store within walking distance of every family was run by one man: Abraham Lincoln (the future President). However, this didn't last very long because soon after Union troops arrived to protect civilians from Confederate forces that were attacking them, Abraham Lincoln ordered all stores closed because he felt they were being used as cover to ambush Union soldiers while they slept! This caused such outcry from the citizens that he finally relented and reopened most stores within a few weeks afterwards – something that has always been remembered as oneof his biggest mistakes as president! One big event that occurred during this time period was when John Brown tried to siege Vicksburg but failed due to bad weather; however this opened up new opportunities for transportation because people could now travel outside Missouri for goods! This resulted in more business for Abraham Lincoln's storekeepers so he decided not to close any more businesses but instead Started marketing himself as "The Purchaser Of Goods At A Fair Price" which helped him stay afloat even though many people believed he should go into bankruptcy! It wasn't until 1863 when General Taney made it official that Springfield Avenue would be named after John Brown – thus giving us our current name “John Brown Boulevard”! After Vicksburg fell we started getting mail again which allowed us see things like pictures back then much better than we do now; however our post office also burned down around 1870 so we've never really recovered from that loss! abolitionism played an important role inJoplins development throughout its history including leading malevolent characters such as General Robert E Lee who wrote public letters pledging allegiance to slavery while living there&Senator James Buchanan who authored legislation allowing white farmers access to black slaves- effectively creating America’s first plantation society! Some events during these years include: William Quantrill shooting at Gadsden Inn & six people killed; plus several hundred destroyed homes &churches due water damage caused by floods caused by Hurricane Andrew!"

Joplin, Missouri was founded on May 24, 1839 by James M. Beckwith and his wife Lucy. The city was named after Joplin, a small town in Congress County, Kentucky. During the Civil War, Joplin was one of the most heavily bombed cities in America and sustained extensive damage. On November 11th 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee's army attacked Joplin from two directions with an estimated 593 artillery pieces and 2200 infantry soldiers; however, only 77 people were killed in this attack alone. The destruction that resulted from this assault is still detectable today as many buildings are still standing in downtown Joplin including the State Capitol building which had been completely destroyed by fire in 1865 following Union occupation of the city during the war;[1] also remaining are some of the early cotton warehouses which helped support the local industry during this time frame. Aftermath of World War II: In 1945, following World War II when military activity decreased in central Missouri due to exhausted resources (due to population growth), St Louis City Council authorized annexation of much of central Missouri under then- Mayor Harry Skelton’s proposal for “economic development” within St Louis City limits as part of plans to stimulate economic growth throughout metropolitan St Louis area straddling both sides of I-70.[2] As part of these efforts Orion Aviation Corporation was founded with construction beginning on what would become runways 7/23 & 27 at former Army Airfield east off Interstate 70 near downtown St Louis In 1948 Orion applied for but did not receive FAA airport status until 1952 when it changed its name to Lambert Airport after then-Governor Marvin Lamberts purchase thereof for $3 million dollars.[3][4][5] It functioned as an International general aviation airport until its closure by MO DOT effective February 17th 2009.[6][7][8]
