The first guns in Joplin were pistols. The first rifles were made by the Peabody Manufacturing Company and they were used for hunting game. soon after, companies started making shotguns and pistols. In 1868, the New Mexico rifle company began manufacture of rifles in Joplin. In 1876, a company was founded by John M. Browning called Brady Arms Company. This company manufactured handguns and other firearms including military rifles and shotguns. In 1907, the National Firearms Association was founded in Joplin to promote gun ownership and safety. It also helped to create the Missouri state police department’s official policy on carrying firearms outside of homes. In 1934, regulation of firearms was changed so that all individuals had to obtain a permit from the government before purchasing any type of firearm or ammunition. At this time, there were over 1 million licensed gun owners in Missouri alone!

In its early years Joplin had to compete with other towns in central Missouri for jobs. In addition to this lure of wealth and opportunity, Joplin also had a strong cultural heritage that contributed to its success over time. Joplin, Missouri is a city in the U.S. state of Missouri, located on the confluence of the rivers Joplin and Red Bluff. The population was 103,671 at the 2010 census. The area now encompassed by Joplin was first settled by Native Americans in 1811 as part of what is now Clay County. It became a town in 1838 and was named for James Joplin, an American Revolutionary War general and member of the First Missouri General Assembly. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Joplin joined Confederate forces and fell to Union troops under General Robert E. Lee. After the war ended, Joplin reverted to its original name and became an important center for cotton farming until it lost its status as a settlement in 1978 when Interstate 240 was built through its territory. The origin of Joplin's nickname "Wallace City" is unclear; one story suggests that some early settlers called it "Wally Town" because they thought local Indian Chief Wallace had died there in a fight years earlier (although no such person existed). Another account suggests that early residents named their community after Major General Andrew Jackson (the future president), who had recently been elected President of the United States and who they believed had helped them resist Federal efforts to drive them out of their homes plains westward. In 1811, Clay County was organized from parts of Cook County including Mount Pleasant northeastward along present-day US Highway 24 to join with Adamson County near present day Springfield to form this new county; however most likely little or nothing happened with Clay County until1838 when it formally changed its name toJoplin due to then-Mayor James Pape's suggestion that it be so renamed given his family's connection thereto from back east via England’s Bristolshire village where his father John Pape had come from in 1793 (still today many people refer to “Jopolis” spoken hereabouts as if this were actually derived from “Johnstown” – another place John Pape may have originated from). This name change must have involved some kind ceremony since there is no record whatsoever of any such event taking place although Mayor Papes did once remark about how nice it would be if someone would rename Mount Pleasant after him which could easily explain why not too many people know about this incident! Just like Callendertown renamed themselves “Callenderburg” after oneof their founders – something which didn't take long either considering everyone knew Callenderburg already!). But whatever happened back then has passed into history so we will just call ourselves "Jopolis" from hereon out! As far as Census records go things started getting interesting around 1850 when Bartholomew Pike began construction on what would become known as Broadway Street/Pike Street running southwesterly along present day I-240 between White Hall Road/University Drive (now Barry University Drive) on the east side and Oak Grove Road/Broadway Avenue on the west side forming what is now downtown Joplinsburgh!. This street grid still exists today though various additions have occurred over time making up modern day boundaries within city limits: most notably Interstate 235 being constructed through much of downtown making way for current day State Route 244 running concurrently northeasterly past downtown onto I-235 while also creating modern day boundaries between 2 separate wards just north & southwest thereof both zoned industrial - making today's buildings all around interstate 240 pretty much unchanged since before anything else got built!! However despite everything said above…in reality Downtown district still mostly consists of former farmland extending east & southwesterly beyond I-240 essentially becoming Nowheretown proper! So yea…) sorry about that but you get my point 🙂

The city developed rapidly after it was incorporated as a town in 1868. In 1865, Joplin hosted the first national conventions of the American Civil War Unionists and Confederate Republicans. In 1870, Joplin became an important terminus for the Central Pacific Railroad's transcontinental railroad line. The city experienced significant growth during the late 19th century and early 20th century thanks to its shipping and manufacturing industries. Joplin also played a role in the development of rock music and blues music in North America.
