Jennings, Missouri is a town in Douglas County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,940 at the 2010 census. Jennings is located on the eastern edge of the county and is bordered by Interstate 44 to the south and east, Highway 66 to the north, and Phelps Avenue to the west. The first settlement in Jennings was made in 1839 by two men from Illinois named John Jenkins and Daniel O'Malley. The Township of Jennings was organized in 1841. The present town site was laid out when a post office called Jennings was established in 1848. It became a village on February 17, 1893 when it incorporated as an city. A devastating fire destroyed most of downtown Jennings on May 9th, 1896; however, much of what remains today can be seen from Government Street which still runs through the heart of town. In 1902 Mormon settlers arrived in Jennings with cattle driving their herds across US-66 which then became known as "Jennings Road." This road led directly to Salt Lake City where many of these settlers had businesses or connections there already. In 1907 a group of businessmen bought land along Phelps Avenue and began developing it into what is now known as downtown Jennings with some homes being built near Burruss Park (now part of Southeastern University). One such developer who started this process was Wm Henson who also had connections to Deseret News headquarters back then on Temple Square (now Regent Park). One addition that Clicker's Hardware Store added onto this center during this time frame were some beautiful Original Victorian style buildings that are still extant today adjacent to First National Bank Building that stands today next door to American Legion Post #1411A - one of only two remaining Post Office buildings from early 20th century America! These buildings are significant not just for their architecture but for their importance within the community during this time period because they served both as commercial spaces as well as residences for many years! Many people may remember clicking open those doors back then during physical mail service - something that we take for granted more recently! Today those doors provide an interesting example about how technology has shaped our lives even further!

Jennings was a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri before the American Civil War. It was located about 20 miles east of Springfield and 10 miles west of Jefferson City on the banks of the Verdigris River. The population for 1881 was 1,868. Jennings was founded by James Jennings, a merchant, in 1836.It became a part of Springfield Township in 1854. In 1870, it had a population of 1,531 residents and became an unincorporated community. The post office at Jennings closed in 1893.The village site is now occupied by Jennings University and its football stadium

They were successful enough to open a store and then to build a home. The Jenningses became prominent citizens of the town and also helped to develop the local agricultural industry. In the 1940s, they donated land for the present day University of Missouri campus.
