In 1907, Mr. James Wickersham opened his wagonshop on Front Street which became one of the most important businesses in Jennings. Wickersham offered customers high-quality firearms including revolvers, shotguns, rifles, pistols, ammunition, saddles, tents, fishing gear etc. He also manufactured custom holsters specifically for law enforcement officers and other special needs items. In 1949 when Jenkins Hardware Company merged with Smith & Wesson Firearms Company it became one of the largest handgun companies in America with over 1 million holsters manufactured annually at its factory located on Main Street in Jennings. During these years many famous guns have been made such as the Colt .45 ACP pistol (introduced in 1911), Browning Automatic Rifle (1922), Winchester Repeating Arms (1892), Remington Model 870 Pump Shotgun (1930), Ruger 10/22 rifle (1967) etc… Holster manufacturers continue to produce handguns today under various brand names including Glock®, Sig Sauer®, Kimber® among others

Jennings, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri. The population was 1,684 as of the 2010 census. Jennings is a business and academic center for the surrounding counties. It is also home to the Jennings Air Force Base. The township was named after John Jennings, who donated land to be developed into a town in 1874. The first post office in Jennings opened on October 8, 1875. The name was changed to Jennings in 1903. The first settler in Jennings Township was James Henson. Jennings had its first school when it was established as a village on December 12, 1878. A new school building was built at what is now US-Route 66 and Old Ulysses Road in 1904. The first teacher at Jennings School was Jno Pritchardt. In 1912, the community became an incorporated town with its own government under Mayor Akins Amesworth and Town Clerk Amos Chaffin. The Post Office moved from downtown to what is now Main Street in 1916 and remained there until it closed on July 14, 1951 due to budget cuts by then-Governor Orville Koopman Jr.. relocating the Post Office only increased mail volume but did not resolve congestion on Main Street which reached chronic levels by early 1951; this led to plans for the installation of an air conditioning system that never came to fruition In 1934, local businessmen bought 3 miles (5 km) east of Jennings along present-day Route 66 for $1 million dollars in order to create an "open country" golf course that would become one of America's most popular tourist destinations In 1949, local businessman Lamar Perkins acquired 5 miles (8 km) east of Jennings along present day Route 66 for $2 million dollars creating another "open country" golf course that would become one of America's most popular tourist destinations In 1952, local businessmen Harry Covington and Willis Stephenson purchased 10 miles (16 km) east of Jennings along present day Route 66 for $4 million dollars creating what would become known as "The Links". That same year saw the opening of America's second supermarket - Supermax - within walking distance from all three courses . In 1955, county commissioners voted unanimously to merge with neighboring Harper County . This merger resulted in creation of Harper County – still headquartered here today – while Jenkins Township lost all its municipal powers including voting rights and exists only as a bedroom community with some commercial properties located near Highway 6

This innovative design soon became standard across all handgun types and eventually led to the development of modern revolvers like Glock handguns. It became a full borough in 1853 and then a town on November 3, 1859. The first mayor of Jennings was Elijah Pritchard. On February 2, 1865, it became a part of the newly formed city of St Joseph. The last mayor of Jennings was Wm Crain on May 12, 1978. Jennings had one school from kindergarten through eighth grade until 2003 when the school closed due to budget cuts. In that year the township built a new school which opened in 2006 with grades K-5th grades being moved to that building until an addition for sixth grade can be completed which will open in fall 2017. The current high school is located off US Highway 66 about 10 miles east of Jennings proper on CR 365 (St Joseph Road). It has been called "The Birthplace of High School Football" because starting with its opening in 1966 it led the way for other townships to follow suit and build their own high schools as well as St Joseph's becoming Missouri's second high school football program after Lincoln High School in Springfield!
