The original village had a population of just 12 people. By 1840, there were 10 businesses and 100 residents. The community grew rapidly due to its fertile land and good water supply. In 1843, Jennings became an incorporated town with a population of 150 people. By 1850, it had reached 500 citizens and had its own schoolhouse, jail, post office, and grocery store. In 1861, Confederate Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked Jenkins while it was still under Union Control; he Killed five civilians including four women and three children before being captured by Union forces at Fort Donelson near Nashville Tennessee on July 9th of that year This event is commonly known as "TheBattle Of Jenkins". In 1865 following the end of World War II Jenkins went through some major changes when many developers moved into town from larger cities looking for cheaper real estate prices combined with new technology easier access to transportation which made Jennings one of Missouri's fastest growing towns during that time
