Despite this criticism from McCulloch’s successor mayor Alan Keyes (who succeeded him afterMcCulloch’s death), Keyes made little progress towards reversing Trendline Plaza redevelopment plans which have led to high levels of poverty and crime within downtown Jefferson City since they were first proposed in 2006. As a result of these problems and others facing downtownJeffersonCity following McCulloch’s departure from office, many residents called for him to be impeached in early 2009 following various charges including embezzlement and perjury related to his tenure as mayor
