Jefferson City, Missouri is a small city in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The population was 10,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Saline County, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1836 by Captain James K. Polk and his wife Catherine as the temporary capital of what would become Jefferson County when it was organized from parts of Clay and Webster counties on November 1, 1837. The name "Jefferson City" had been given to it by General James K. Polk for his home state of Kentucky which he had just won in the presidential election that year. In 1865, Confederate General Robert E Lee's army destroyed most of downtown Jeff City after attacking an American military train carrying food to Union forces fighting in eastern Arkansas; this event is often cited as Reason No. 8 why Jefferson City became a ghost town during the Civil War era. However, even though Jeff City no longer exists as a populated area or municipality within present day Saline County, much remains associated with its history throughout local culture and community events that are typically held every summer around July 4th fireworks displays at the Independence National Monument east of town along U S Highway 63RD Street (Old US Highway 63RD). These include street- fairs/fairs that werecommonplace until about 1920; carnivals featuring agricultural products such as Babe Ruth’s first game action; patriotic rallies celebrating American independence and veterans’ rights; beauty pageants including Miss America 1913 Miss Kansas 1922 etc.; antique shows & sales from late spring through early fall before Christmas; chamber music concerts throughout summertime by various local groups - including one annual open air concert complete with live entertainment on Main Street near Good Hope Cemetery on Labor Day weekend; literary readings accompanied by refreshments outdoors each evening from mid-July until late September following book signings at Barnes & Noble Books store adjoining State Capitol Annex beginning in May...... Today many aspects still remain unchanged or have changed very little since those days long ago when life here revolved around agriculture........... There are several hotels located close to downtown providing good lodging rates....... And finally there are numerous cultural attractions available all within easy walking distance including:the Independence National Monument less than two miles away from downtown on US highway 63rd street (old highway 63rd street),the University of Missouri campus less than three miles away across Old US Highway 63RD Street from downtown.... There are also several restaurants and pubs located nearby...... Downtown Jeff City has been designated as a historic district making it possible to purchase property adjacent to old courthouse square for redevelopment into housing, commercial space or other forms of development.. In recent years some new businesses have opened up inside the walls surrounding downtown such as: Anheuser Busch Brewery - now known locally simply as "Anheuser"; Beechwood Golf Course - newly re-opened after being closed for many years due to lack of parking availability on top floor lots too expensive and difficult to maintain; Dollar General Department Store next door which began operations as "Dollar General Emporium" back in 1965..... Overall we feel confident that continuing progress will be made towards restoring Downtown Jeff City back into its former glory......................... One significant event taking place annually outside city limits during July 4th weekend is called "The Fourth Great Fireworks Display", which began more than 50 years ago when firefighters brought over large tractors filled with sandbags ready for an elaborate show lasting about four hours nightly at then-Downtown Jeff Citv [now primarily known by its nickname "Fourth Sundayof July"]...

The gun was made out of metal with a breech that opened by means of a lever, allowing cartridges to be fired one at a time. This design was later improved upon by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his son Nicolas-Jacques Conte II, who created the Congreve Gun. The Congreve Gun was more advanced than its predecessor and could fire more rounds per minute than any other type of airgun at the time. It also had a longer range than any other airgun on the market at the time. However, it was not well-received by shooters because it was difficult to control and needed expert instruction to use effectively. In 1824, French engineer Frédéric Barthou created what is now known as the Barthou Gun. The Barthou Gun was designed as an improved version of Nicholas-Jacques Conte’s CongreveGun, but it employed much simpler construction techniques and had greater range than its predecessor. It became very popular among shooters in France during this period; however, it never caught on in other countries due to its complexity and expensive price tag. During World War I, several governments turned to airguns as their primary weapon choice because they believed they would be more effective than artillery against enemy forces. By 1917, all major combatants had adopted airguns as their primary armament; however, they were not initially very successful due to their relatively small caliber (around 0·50 caliber) and low power output (about 10 watts). This changed after World War I when advances in artillery technology made airgunsmuch more effective against enemy troops than previous methods such as cannonball or rifle fire. Airguns eventually became mainstream across most warfare sectors throughout World War II thanks to advances in engineering and manufacturing technology

The area that now makes up Jefferson City was first settled by French colonists in 1777. The town was founded on the site of an old fur trade post and named for General James K. Polk, who had won fame at Battle of Buena Vista in 1805. In 1821, Jefferson City became a part of Platte County and became known as "the most peaceful and prosperous community on the Mississippi River." The economy of Jefferson City has been based primarily on agriculture since its founding. The town has produced a variety of food products such as cornmeal, flour, milk, cheese, bacon, eggs, vegetables and fruits. A meat market still remains open today in downtown Jefferson City and it is one of the largest in western Missouri. In addition to its agricultural base there have been many other businesses established in recent years including a dental office (now closed), two hospitals (one now closed), two software companies (one now closed) and several restaurants/cafés collectively known as "The Towne Place". There are also plans underway to build a new high school which will be located just east of downtown alongside what is currently home to "The Landing", which offers retail space for local farmers markets and local craft shops as well as 2-3 restaurants per week serving mostly American cuisine with international touch.
Jefferson City was founded in 1814 by the Missouri General Assembly, and became the capital of the Confederate States of America in 1861. It was sacked by Union forces in 1865, and again burned down in 1871.
