Jackson, Missouri is a small town in Webster County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Jackson is named for James K. Jackson, an early settler and one of the original proprietors of the township. Jackson was laid out on July 6, 1821 by Samuel Denny and John Stevenson. It became a stop on the Santa Fe Trail. The first post office was established in 1824. The first school in Jackson was built in 1827 by Elijah Price and it served as the only school until 1870 when a second schoolhouse was erected. In 1876, there were six schools in Jackson with seventy-five students each; however, this number dropped to thirty-six by 1907 due to lack of funds and enrollment growth elsewhere at the high school level. The last high school operated from 1951-1957 before closing because of budget cuts made by then Governor Orval Faubus. In 1925, Captain George Treadway donated land for what would become Riverview Park which included a swimming pool and baseball diamond; it opened to the public in 1927 as part of a park program initiated by Mayor Wm Henson which also included such amenities as a library and playgrounds for children across town. Riverview Drive continues today as its namesake artery providing access to both entities from downtown Jackson (northwest corner). Beginning in 1957, efforts were made to bring back high school athletics within city limits with several successful campaigns culminating with girls' varsity football team joining boys' varsity play beginning that fall season under head coach Donny Payne after years of debate between city officials and parents concerned about potential scheduling conflicts on either side of State Highway 66 bridge over Big Sneeze Creek valley leading into townsite/riverview area east of downtown! That same year saw construction begin on new stadium/facility adjacent to riverview area just north of downtown walking path making future home field advantage possible finally ending many fears that our beloved older stadium may soon become history--a sad reality yet all too common these days among larger municipalities facing budgetary constraints! It has been said that “Jackson had always been more than just a small town” (Larson), though some would say that it truly began taking off during World War II when heavy industry relocated away from cities towards smaller towns like Webster County due largely to wartime shortages resulting from戦争被害。 With so much change happening throughout those years – including increased immigration rates following World War II – little attention was given to how those changes might impact local residents living within their own communities or those located outside their homes…. Although trends have since changed somewhat (thankfully!) most small towns continue to grow along linear streets through downtown surrounded by businesses districts while newer neighborhoods are developed closer unto Interstate 44 or major highways….. Many citizens still refer to themselves simply as “townspeople” although they may now live anywhere within commuting distance……… Today there are active civic organizations representing nearly every interest group imaginabletpldrs: arts & heritage groups; business & economic development groups; environmental organizations; educational associations; fraternal orders; Hispanic community groups; Indian tribes
