Jackson, Missouri is a small town located in Jackson County, Missouri. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Jefferson City, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community has been settled since 1811 and was named for General Andrew Jackson. The first settler in Jackson was Emory Booth and his family who came from Kentucky during the early 1800s. They erected a log cabin on what is now Business Street in 1811. The town of Jackson was platted by Isaac Boone in 1823. His son John Fenton developed the land that now makes up the heart of the town. In 1830, James Witherspoon organized a wagon road to travel between St Louis and Cairo, Illinois which passed throughJackson on its way southward. This helped spark development around this intersection as traders began to trade with new arrivals arriving in search of food and other resources. By 1840, there were over 20 stores and businesses operating in Jackson which made it one of the most prosperous towns in Randolph County at that time! In 1851, General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters to this location after becoming President of America following his successful victory over Mexico during their Mexican War campaign two years earlier! The Gadsden flag flew here for about one year before being taken down due to complaints from nearby residents about its colors (red and white). After taking office, Gen Jax ordered all flags flown at half staff until he could inspect them firsthand! Later that year, on September 3rd1861, when Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina using cannons installed throughoutJackson by Union Colonel Nathaniel Banks (the namesake for today's Banks Bridge), many homes within hours became targets for attack asflag flying became an act of defiance against Confederate policy! Over 100 citizens were killed or wounded as well as nearly 500 horses and mules used by local farmers across much of Randolph County! Today only a few pieces remain standing from these buildings including one structure known as "Old Jacksons House" which still stands adjacent to Main Street inside the old post office building where some services are provided today (apparently not related to Generalship!). This event marked one significant turning point for relations between parts of Tennessee/Missouri during this time period – an event which would culminate with slavery being abolished five years later! TodayJackson continues to experience high levels of economic growth thanks largely to its vibrant agricultural sector which includes corn production through various means such as irrigation systems; beef cattle raising; pork production; ethanol production; manufacturing; retail sales; tourism;and infrastructure development including: two schools (one high school & one middle school), three churches (two Baptist & one Methodist), several dozen businesses (& more opening each day!), numerous residences (~2000+) built since 2011 (!), plus dozens more under construction or planned...making it home to some 8500+ people making it - by far - one of America's most populous villages
