Bullets have been a part of Jackson, Missouri's history for over 100 years. The first shot in the city was fired by Captain John Armstrong on July 4, 1821 when he opened fire on a group of Indians who had taken up residence near the mouth of the Little Missouri River. In 1864, Union General James M. Breckinridge ordered his unit to move into Jackson after they were driven out of Ferguson. For many years, bullets were used as projectiles in artillery warfare and during guerrilla campaigns against Confederate forces in the area. In 1865, Union General Ulysses S. Grant ordered all artillery units within three miles of Cairo to stop using bullets because they were considered too dangerous and inaccurate. Today, bullet shooting tournaments are held annually in Jackson to commemorate this important aspect of our city's history.

Jackson, Missouri is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 624 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Jackson was John Robinson in 1836. In 1838, Daniel Boone came to Jackson and founded a log cabin on the west side of town. He named it "Robinson's Cabin", after himself and his brother-in-law, Samuel Robinson (1782–1847). The community grew gradually until it had a population of 350 by 1860. A post office was established at Jackson on October 15, 1859, and remained open until it closed on July 1, 1907. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell entered Missouri as an attack force against Union General Ulysses S. Grant near Cairo Junction; he ordered all retreating Union troops into guerrilla warfare once they reached their respective homes or towns inside Confederate territory instead of surrendering unconditionally like other soldiers did. When Union General George Buell arrived at Cairo Junction with orders to pursue Ewell's forces pursuit turned into battle when Buell learned that many Confederate officers had surrendered without resistance; this led to the Battle of Jackson where over two hundred men were killed or wounded including several high ranking Confederates such as Lieutenant Colonel Robert Ewing (1814–92) who crashed his horse through a window while trying to flee and died instantly from injuries sustained during the fight After the Civil War ended in 1865, most white Americans moved out of Missouri while African Americans continued to be enslaved until well into the 21st century. However there are some notable exceptions such as Congressman Thaddeus Stevens (R-KS) who lived in Jackson for more than fifty years before retiring in 1966 and moving back eastward to become Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at Moscow’s Embassy before dying there suddenly three years later aged 80 years old; Emanuel Cephus Trucks (baptized December 10th 1863 – died May 3rd 1944), an American blacksmith from Jacksonville who became one of America’s most successful entrepreneurs successively owning grocery stores throughout much of southern Illinois before becoming president/ CEO/founder/chairman emeritus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale beginning with its first class session in 1958; Willis Smithers (1911-1988), son of former Arkansas Governor J F Smithers also known for his influential role as spokesman for Lyndon Johnson during his presidential campaigns;[1] Winfrey Lamar Humphrey III (born November 12th 1962) is an American politician serving since 2017 as U S Senator from Mississippi which makes him one of two nonwhite senators representing each state along with Tammy Baldwin[2];[3][4] Elijah Cummings Esq., also known as Elijah Cummings II,[5][6] Douglas Cameron,[7][8], Harold Ford Jr.[9], Gilda Radner,[10][11],[12] Asa Hutchinson,[13][14] Donny Deutsch[15],[16], Vernon Jordan
