The Confederates continued to rape women and children throughout 1862 and 1863; however, most women managed to flee before they could be raped or killed outright. Some women did manage to survive though; some moved away from town and hid until it was over while others worked as nurses or servants in nearby homes until things calmed down. Overall though, around 150 woman died during Union-Confederate fighting in Independence between 1862-1865 (out of a population of around 5000). Aftermath: Many people feel that Independence was lost due to lackadaisical leadership on both sides and poor strategy overall; this has led some historians to call Independence "the Lost Cause"of the Confederacy despite being successful at other points during its short lifespan

In 1840, Abraham Lincoln was elected as president and he announced his intention to have all territories admission into the Union as states if he were re-elected. This caused a lot of discord between Kansas and Missouri because they felt like they had been taken advantage of – especially since most of those lands had already been given away through the Morrill Land Grant Act! In 1850, violence broke out between pro-Lincoln and anti-Lincoln mobs in Jackson Heights on Long Island in New York City following a speech by John Cushing (a pro-Lincoln man). A group called “The Ironsides” attacked these mobs wielding iron rods while others threw stones at them from rooftops! Eleven people were killed and many more injured before Governor James Kossuth declared a emergency government rule requiring all men under 25 years old to attend service in militia units for three months! This measure may have helped win Kossuth election against Harrison Gray Otis (an opponent of Lincoln) in November that year! After Kossuth came into office, things got better for Missouri; however, there were still some problems going on such as race riots which took place throughout 1860 due to tensions over slavery and free labor laws!
