The successful protest against President Lincoln led many German immigrants who had already arrived in Arkansas to move to Hazelwood as well in order to join in on the anti-Lincoln movement; however because most of these immigrants owned no land they could not vote or hold political office within their new home state so they are largely undocumented today).
