In 1885, General John S. Woolridge and his men occupied Hazelwood, Missouri after the town was burned by the Union army. The citizens of Hazelwood were able to rebuild and they decided to name their new town after General Woolridge. Hazelwood is a small town in McLean County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,299 at the 2000 census. Hazelwood is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area and is the home to the University of Central Missouri. The first Europeans to visit what is now Hazelwood were French traders in 1764. A post office was established in 1827, and by 1830, it had become a station on the Underground Railroad. In 1836, a store opened in what is now downtown Hazelwood. The town started to grow rapidly after blacksmiths began making tools for local farmers. By 1840, Hazelwood had a school and a Methodist Church. In 1849, railroad promoters announced plans for a line from Topeka to Council Bluffs via Hazelwood. The townspeople approved the measure and built their first steam engine in 1850-51. By 1860, there were more than 100 residents in Hazelwood; by 1865 there were over 200 residents. The Union Pacific Railroad arrived in 1870 and began construction of its mainline through McLean County; by 1872 just two miles remained unpaved when work stopped due to lack of funds; as a result, most of the town became integrated into nearby Kansas City within four years! In 1896 an electric streetcar service began between downtown Kansas City and Hazelwood; this service ended circa 1960 because of high fares (it was one of few services available during that time). In 1903-04 an elephant named Gramps served as mascot for local schools during lunchtime until his death in 1955 (he was replaced by Tommy). After Gramps' death some people decided that he would have preferred not having been memorialized despite his fansfare - so they built an outdoor statue depicting Gramps without any clothing! In 2006-07 hiked Interstate 44 across from town resulted in an estimated$1 million worth of damage done to trees near I-44 bridgehead which required quick response from Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) under National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). As per rulemaking published earlier this year under NEPA process known as "Final Rule",the agency has determined that natural resources damaged or removed along I-44 include tree stumps up to 20 feet tall and limbs exceeding 30 feet long caused by hikers!, Some $2 million has already been identified for damages still remaining… . It’s clear that much remains undone with this highway project – but EPA stands ready “to help where necessary” even if money can’t be found quickly enough!

Hazelwood is a small town located in Boone County, Missouri, United States. The population was 709 at the 2010 census. Hazelwood was founded in 1847 by nine families from nearby Lexington, Kentucky. It became a city in 1907 and is now part of Springfield, Missouri. The town was established on the site of what would become Hazelwood after being bought by General James Wilkinson for $2 per acre (1/4 cents per foot). The original settlers were men from Kentucky who had come to the area for land speculation. After some years of development, the townspeople voted to make it their own city on November 2, 1907. They did this because they wanted more than just a stop on the way to Springfield. They wanted to be their own country community with its own government and schools. When Hazelwood became a city it experienced some growth and change that not many towns do. For one thing, it lost its rural character which made it different from other cities in the area. In addition, Hazelwood also gained an important distinction as one of America's first "green" cities - meaning that most of its surface features are composed of trees and green plants rather than brick or mortar

It continued to grow rapidly during World War II, when it became home to some of the largest air-defense installations in Missouri. After the war, Hazelwood experienced significant decline until becoming part of St. Louis County in 1970.Today, Hazelwood is still an important community located within St. Louis County with many cultural attractions and businesses located there including several high schools, colleges, hospitals and restaurants
