Hannibal, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks of west-central Missouri. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. Hannibal is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The Hannibal post office was established in 1836, and served until it closed in 1921. The Hannibal school district was organized in 1907 and operates twelve schools: three elementary schools (grades K-4), two middle schools (grades 5-8), one high school (9-12), and one special needs program. The town has a rich history dating back to 1836 when two men named John Poindexter and James Tipton decided to settle what is now Hannibal on land they had acquired from the United States government for $3 per acre. They named their new community after General Mariano Escobar, who had lost his life during the Mexican War. In 1865, when Confederate General Robert Ewell arrived in Hannibal with an army seeking refuge from Union forces near Rolla, he ordered all inhabitants to leave their homes and head south into Arkansas or east into Missouri because he thought that Springfield would be surrendered without a fight. Only 1 out of 4 citizens chose to flee; the others gathered their belongings and moved into surrounding coves until city limits were set down around them again. This act of defiance by these patriots helped set off a decades long struggle between Carthageians and Springfieldians over control of this small corner of southwest Missouri which is still known today as "the heartland". In 1915, during World War I when many people were moving away from rural areas due to trench warfare across Europe, Hannibal's mayor recommended that the town build a military hospital for its residents since there was no medical center in nearby Rolla or even nearby Tupelo! Unfortunately for Mayor Poindexter, only 10% of those who applied for membership actually received permits; so instead construction began on what would become Hospital Number One today! The first patient admitted here on October 12th 1916 was Drs Jock Reynolds and Willard Sterrett! Within months however, another building became necessary – Hospital Number Two! By 1922 both hospitals had been completed; but it wasn't until 1971 thatHS One was renamed after Doctor James Breen who served as Medical Director at both hospitals from 1951 until his death in 1984…thus giving us our current name – "Hannibal" School District Community College! Today we are proud to call ourselves "Hannibal" School District Community College!"

Hannibal is a small town located in Hannibal County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. Hannibal has been home to the Hannibal-Monroe Community School District since it was formed in 1957. The school district serves nearly 1,000 students and employs over 100 people. The first inhabitants of Hannibal were farmers who lived on the banks of the Missouri River. They organized into townships in 1803 and 1804, but only made temporary appearances until they were reorganized into a community under the name of Carthage in 1825. A store, post office and jail were built there in 1827. The original town site was acquired by John Randal in 1830 as part of his donation to the community which he named after himself and his brother-in-law Samuel Monroe (1779-1836). In 1843, a group of Quakers from Lebanon settled near Carthage and began trading goods with Native Americans for fur; this increased trade along the Missouri River gave rise to other new settlements such as Cairo (1845) and Hillsboro (1848). By 1860, Carthage had about 150 residents including 31 teacher's aides and six trustees who managed public schools with an annual budget of $2,500+. In 1865 when Hannibal became a county seat under what is now called "the Union System", local citizens petitioned for incorporation as a village but no action was taken because there wasn't enough land available for it. On July 17th 1870 authorization arrived from Jefferson City to incorporate as Hannibal with a population of 350; however no building permits could be issued because almost all citizens were already living inside buildings that didn't meet city codes designed to improve water supply, lighting or sanitation facilities for burgeoning populations like Hannibal! In 1873 when Quincy Township was organized within Hannibal County Pursuant to Act No 9 01/01/63artering 11th day of November thereof being duly approved by Stencil No 5 on file at Office Of The Sheriff & Constable respectively[1] an act annexing said township unto said county caused by & through application filed by Morna Epps—wifeof James Epps—on behalf her husband Geo Washington [2] finally granting creditability thereto according to law& orderlies present!—Hannibal CO., MO Nov 10th 1863 This event marked not only physical incorporation into another municipality but also political recognition that would later benefit both communities economically: Quincy Township would become one half of Jackson County while Hannibal would become its official successor–a status quo that still exists today due largely to their mutual economic interests–and their shared history dating back more than two centuries! Today’s downtown area contains three buildings dating back to this time: One built in 1865 specifically for the courthouse which is currently used as offices by the Village Board; another housed within Judge George Ladd’s courtroom during trials over 50 years ago; and lastly an early 20th century elevator which served as both storage space for court records before becoming operational again around 2006! It should be noted that prior annexation efforts by other municipalities had all failed due mainlyto lack of interest from either side despite potential benefits available if accepted! Today many businesses are located throughout downtown serving both locals and visitors alike making it one thriving metropolis complete with its own unique character not found anywhere else on our planet!
