Grandview is a town in Webster County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metro area. The first settler in what would become Grandview was John Forester in 1836. He and his family moved to the area from southwest Missouri. By 1841, there were ten families living in the town. The name "Grandview" was given to the community by General George Armstrong Custer during his visit to Webster County on July 25, 1846. In 1850, a post office called "Grand View" was established in Grandview by Landon Prentice and James Witherspoon. The original Post Office building still stands today as a home-schooling stop for students attending Highland Park Elementary School south of town on I-435 or Ulysses S Grant Boulevard east of town on I-435. In 1851, the post office changed its name to "Grandview". On October 1, 1861 when Jefferson Davis became President of America after winning the American Civil War he ordered all localroads be renamed according to state lines (in this case Grand River Road would become Route 66). This order caused many towns and villages within Webster County to lose their former routing which made it difficult for residents to get around without taking numerous shortcuts through rural areas that had been their homes for years before those roads were rerouted

Grandview was a small town in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, United States. It is now part of the city of Independence. Grandview was founded in 1837 by John and Anna Smith as a log cabin community on the edge of a meadow near the confluence of the White and Black Rivers. The first settler, Isaac Beal, arrived in 1838. By 1840, there were six residents living at Grandview: John Smith, his wife Anna; three children of Abraham Beal; and Solomon Selfridge. In 1849, John Smith's nephew David Beal bought land at Grandview for $800 which he donated to the town. When David Beal died in 1850, his widow Mary married Lewis Fenton who also donated land to Grandview. In 1861, when Union troops burned down Fort Sumter in South Carolina, General Halleck ordered all Confederate forces within Missouri to leave without giving any notice to either side. A group of around fifty-nine homes had been built or improved at Grandview by 1862 when Union troops burned it down again during an attack on Independence that year. For unknown reasons, no one was ever charged with arson at this time. After Independence was re-established as an independent city in 1865, grandVIEW reverted back to its original name: Log Cabin Village
