Grandview is a small town located in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 576 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for General James Wilkinson (1793-1875), an officer in the Union army and later a U.S. Representative from Missouri who served from 1851 to 1857 and again from 1861 to 1865. Wilkinson's father had been born in Grandview Township in 1784 and died there in 1834; his mother had also been born there. The town was platted on December 12, 1860, by Jno Cranch Williamson and others under the name of "Wilkinsonville." The first post office was established at Grandview on January 3, 1861; it continued until it was discontinued on July 6, 1870.[2] Wilkinsonville reverted back to its original name after he vacated his seat in the House of Representatives in 1865 and moved to Springfield where he resumed his career as a lawyer before dying there two years later. After Wilkinson's death, local residents voted not to rename the town but did so instead ceding it to neighboring towns of Lebanon and Galt with similar names (Lebanon became Grove City Acres while Galt became Grange). With no one living at Grandview long enough to claim it as their own place nameakesake anymore (likely due largely to its remote location) it has remained undistinguished ever since among these other villages/townships within St. Francois County until recently when a new development called "Grand View" sprang up around what once constitu

Grandview was a small town in Webster County, Missouri, United States. The community was founded in 1853 by Captain George Carr and his wife, Sarah. It grew to about 100 people and had a post office from 1854 to 1865. The Carr family owned the land that became Grandview until it was sold in 1903 to James H. Gibson. In 1907, Gibson built the first frame house in Grandview. The town had a population of just over 50 people when it lost its post office in 1925 and stopped receiving mail. Granite Street—the only street in the town—was renamed Gibson Boulevard after him in 1927. By 1960, however, Grandview's population had shrunk to about 10 people and its sole store closed down that year. In 2004, the Community Foundation of Webster County donated most of the remaining property within Grandview's borders (including all of what is now known as North Park) to the county for use as open space. That same year, they also reopened the old Post Office building., which has been used as Grandview High School since 1957
The first white settlement in the area was on a farmstead near present-day Grandview, Missouri in 1834. The town was named for George Washington Lewis, the son of General James Lewis. In 1836, Grandview became the first county seat of Johnson County. In 1865, Johnson County was merged into Ferguson County and Grandview became its capital. In 1875, the state legislature created a new district in Johnson County called Vinita Township which included most of what is now Grandview. On February 14, 1889, when Vinita Township was organized as a part of Washburn County, it lost all its land to Grandview Township and became an unincorporated community within Washburn County.
