The first post office was established in Grandview in 1850, and the town became a full-fledged county seat in 1851. In 1862, the United States Congress passed an act creating the states of Kansas and Missouri, respectively, as part of the Union movement. As a result of this change of government, Grandview became part of Missouri. The population of Grandview grew rapidly during its early years; by 1860 it had reached 100 residents. By 1865 it had increased to 300 residents and by 1870 it had reached 1,000 residents. Over time, however, the growth rates for both sexes slowed down; by 1880 Grandview had only about 150 females living in total with a population size approaching 1,300 males. Growth ceased completely around 1900 when manufacturing jobs shifted to other parts of Missouri or abroad. Today there is only one house remaining from whenGrandview was a thriving community
