The bank also donated a large amount of land to the town for use as public space. A munitions plant was constructed at Grandview beginning production of artillery shells in 1898. This plant helped support World War I efforts and later provided munitions for World War II. The plant closed after World War II but reopened as an agricultural research center in 1990s. In 1965, Grandview joined Clay County as part of a merger effort among all Clay County townships with population over 5,000 people (the following year). At that time, Clay County had a population of 15,714 people; grand view had a population of 711 people (its smallest size).grand View would grow slowly through annexations until reaching its current size by 2000; with a population over 10,000 residents today it is one of Missouri's most populous townships

Grandview is a city in Johnson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Grandview was David Cook who arrived in 1821. Cook named his new land "Cook's Grove." A post office called Cooks Grove was established in 1825, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1872. In 1832, John Capps came to Grandview from Holland Township near Topeka and laid out a plat of land on which he built a home and named it after himself-John Capps House. In 1840, Daniel Webster moved to Grandview from Alton on the east side of the Missouri River and erected a log cabin on his farm west of present day Park Avenue. Webster became one of the early settlers hereabouts and left an enduring legacy by erecting one of the earliest churches hereabouts-the Methodist Episcopalian Church located on present day Elm Street between Third and Fourth Streets. The original cornerstone for this church was placed by Reverend Samuel Morse Maynard during GrandVIEW's centennial celebration held in 1889. In 1846, Nathan Bedford Forrest settled along busy Park Avenue just south of current day Elm Street with his grandnephew Ephraim Forrest alias Stonington leading party including twenty six men under Captain James Willsmore about whom little else is known except that they were determined to hunt buffalo for their food supply as well as find goldfields worth exploration when they discovered these deposits some seventy five miles (113 km) northcentral Kansas Territory then called Dakota Territor y Some time later Nathan Bedford Forrest founded Fort De Witt which served as an Indian trading post until1868 when it burned down due to forest fires while garrisoned by Confederate cavalry commanded by Major General Isaac Neely By 1870 there were over 400 white residents livingElsewhere within Johnson County some 200 black residents lived mainly around Ft Campbell/Ft Vernon where slaves worked during military campaigns waged against Union forces led by General Ulysses S Grant
