Grandview, Missouri is a small town in central Missouri, United States. The population was 3,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The town began as a community on the east bank of the White River and was named for General James Grandview who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The original home of Grandview was built in 1827 by John A. Blair and his family. In 1865, General James Grandview's great-grandson, James Hogue Blair moved to Grandview from Illinois and started an agricultural operation which remains operational today. In 1881, General James Hogue Blair's widow married Colonel George Brownlow Clay and they bought land on which they built their largest home, now known as "Claymont", which still stands today. The Blairs also donated $10,000 to build the first school in town (now known as "Stuyvesant"). In 1902 William Fenton established a grocery store at what is now Main Street and became one of the most prominent merchants in town until his death in 1927. Another early business activity was trucking services connecting nearby farms with local consumers; this service continues to be provided today by various companies including First National Bank & Trust Company, Mid-America Chevrolet Sales Corporation and Moller Lumber Company Ltd.. The post office opened on October 1st 1892 under Postal Code 5501 with Wm Fenton as Postmaster; he served until his death in 1922 . A large addition to GrandVIEW'S history occurred when Eastern Telephone Company purchased it from its builder/operator Milton Sagerstrom on July 1st 1951 for $2100 cash! This gave residents access to telephone services for their entire community! On May 28th 1959 both Central High School (later renamed Truman High School) and Cass Technical High Schools were dedicated with much fanfare by then Mayor Edward Carney! At that time Truman had been closed for over three years due to lack of funds but grand opening festivities included live music from local band "The Hawks" plus refreshments from many local businesses!!! This event marked grand entry into high school status for all within “The Village” including young people who would attend “Old West Elementary” next door where instruction continued until present day! Today 'Old West Elementary' houses grades PreK thru 12th grade along with several adult classes providing hands-on learning opportunities during LIBRARY HOURS!! Park District staff are currently working hard on making this facility ready for occupancy……….. This gave rise to what is now known as a “gunslinger” grip, which was used by cowboys and other outdoor shooters. Around 1850, however, an improvement was made to this type of grip called a “pistol grip”. This improvement involved adding a fingerloop around the outside of the grip frame, so that the hands could easily be placed on top of each other when firing (this also allowed for easier reloading). From here on out, pistols began being fitted with pistol grips not just for shooting purposes but also for carrying around in cases and pockets. There are numerous different types of guns available today- it can be difficult to determine which type of grip is best suited for which type of shooter. Grandview, Missouri is a town in Harrison County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first settler in Grandview was John Ferguson in 1837. He and his family arrived from Kentucky. They made their home on a small farm near present-day Grandview Lake. By 1840, they had built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1843, they started a gristmill that would power the whole town for many years. In 1853, the Northern Pacific Railroad came through Grandview and began to bring workers and materials to build the new line between Kansas City and St Louis. The soon-to-be settlers were drawn to this new opportunity and quickly founded churches, businesses, schools and other infrastructure as well as contributing significantly to the growth of their community over time. Grandview grew rapidly during its early years but unfortunately experienced some turmoil due to various factors including floods (in 1868), railroads coming through (in 1870), World War I (1914-1918) and later period of prosperity brought about by oil exploration in central Arkansas (1958-1960). Despite these challenges however, by 1930 Grandview had become one of the most prosperous towns in Harrison County with over 100 businesses employing more than 500 people while still maintaining close cultural ties with its rural roots throughout much of its history
