Grandview, Missouri is an unincorporated community in eastern Jackson County, Missouri, United States. It lies on the east bank of the Missouri River and is a few miles (drivers) south of its confluence with the Arkansas River. The population was 1,641 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Grandview was John Robertson in 1825. Other early residents were Andrew Hammonds, James Ladd and Wm. Aitken. The post office was established in 1868, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. According to the United States Census Bureau, Grandview has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,521 people, 599 households, and 438 families residing in the town. The population density was 362 people per square mile (150/km²). There were 653 housing units at an average density of 158 per square mile (60/km²). The racial makeup of Grandview was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 2% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 3%. There were 599 households out of which 33% had children under age 18 living with them, 52% were married couples living together, 12% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28% were non-families. 24% of all households were made up of individuals and 10% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. In 1912, it became part of Kansas City metropolitan area and remains an integral part thereof today. In 1948,Grandview was designated as Missouri's capital city pursuant to an act entitled "An Act Concerning Capital Cities." The designation reflects its importance as both a governmental center for Missouri and as home to many major business enterprises within that state and beyond. Additionally, Grandview has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in eastern Kansas City metropolitan area
Grandview was founded in 1835 by John S. Grandview and James W. Hogg. The town grew quickly, becoming a major center for agriculture and trade. In 1854, the first railroad arrived in the area, making Grandview an important transportation hub. The town also became a popular stop on stagecoach routes connecting Illinois with Missouri and Kentucky. By the turn of the century, Grandview had become a sizable community with ample commerce and services available to its residents. However, during World War I, there was significant growth in the town as many men enlisted to serve in military units throughout the United States. As a result of this increased activity, businesses suffered as demand for goods dried up or were diverted to other areas of the country. After World War I ended, GrandVIEW struggled to regain its former glory as it lost much of its manufacturing base and population shifted away from rural areas towards larger metropolitan centers such as Kansas City and St Louis. However, over time it has regained some of its lost prominence as a bedroom community for eastern Missouri suburbs; and continues to be home to many small businesses and entrepreneurs who continue to contribute positively to their local economy
