Grain Valley is a small town located in west-central Missouri, United States. The population was 1,632 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–Jefferson County, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first target holders were made out of logs and used to shoot game pheasants near the stream that ran through Grain Valley. By 1875, a frame shooting gallery had been built and Bissell Brothers began selling targets there. In 1915, General Motors bought the business from Bissell Brothers and set up a manufacturing plant there to make cannons for World War I. In 1925, the factory closed and all production stopped until 1951 when it reopened as an armory with 16 acres (6 hectares). In 1955, local citizens raised money to buy land on which they built a new Target Holders factory; this became home to both Bissell Bros., ATK Arms & Ammunition Inc., and Brownells Sporting Goods since 1978. Today, Brownells Sporting Goods operates two factories in Grain Valley: one produces firearms components (rifles, shotguns) and optics products while the other manufactures ammunition products including rifle bullets and shotgun rounds. The company also maintains a store within town limits which sells ammo products as well as Firearms parts/accessories/firearms supplies

Grain Valley Shooting Club was founded in 1911. From that time until 1961, the club offered classes in target shooting, pistols and shotguns. The first shotgun class was taught by Mr. John Prentiss. In 1951, the club moved to its present location on High Street in Grain Valley and offered courses in rifles, handguns and shotguns. The current staff of shooters has been with the club for over fifty years!
Grain Valley is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 538 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Grain Valley was platted in 1868 by Jno. H. Griggs and named for the flour that was sold there from 1867 to 1870. The first store in Grain Valley opened in 1872. In 1903, the community had a post office and two churches; one Greek Orthodox and one Methodist. The grain business closed in 1978 but the community has continued to grow with several businesses opening up over time including a pizzeria, a health food store, a bowling alley and now an electric light show production business called "The Electric Mill". The town has four schools: Wheat Ridge Elementary School, Sunrise Middle School, Grain Valley High School and Oneida Intermediate School which all serve students grades 7-12 as well as special needs students through Eastside Christian Academy which serves pre-kindergarten through 8th grade (K-6). There is also an agricultural museum open to visitors every day from 9am to 4pm inside of Sunrise Middle School which contains models of farm equipment used during the early 1900s when Grain Valley grew rapidly as a wheat processing center

The first target holders were created in 1892 by George A. Wilder and Charles W. Fenton. These devices consisted of two pieces of wood that were stuck together at one end and had a hole drilled through it so that a shooting cartridge could be inserted into it. The object of these devices was not primarily for shooting targets, but rather for holding up arrows shot at long distances from home or elsewhere. It wasn’t until 1906 that Charles Ewart developed what we now know as the Target Holder Theory. This theory involved attaching one end of an armature (a metal tube) directly to a large round wooden globe which was then placed on top of a nearby container such as a bucket or canister filled with water or airH2O . The aim was to hold down the globe while someone else shot arrows at it from close range
