The mill continued to operate until 1994 when it was taken over by Monsanto Co.. Today, much of the old mill complex remains preserved as a museum with exhibits about agriculture and flour mills from around the world.. A new grocery store opened up near the mill complex in 1998 and has been operating ever since. It became known as "The GV Mill Store" after grain writer Vernon McGee started using that name there 20 years earlier.. In recent years, other stores have also opened up within walking distance of Grain Valley's historic district including a tire store and an online grocer/convenience store which replaced one of Morgan's original flour mills buildings on Main Street..

Today, Grain Valley is an important agricultural center with many businesses involved in farming and ranching activities.
In 1839, the first mill in Grain Valley was built. It was a small mill with only 12 flour barrels. The Mill and Spindel were two of the first mills in Missouri. The Mills produced flour for many locales including St. Louis, Independence, Hannibal, and Rolla.
