Grain Valley is a small town in central Missouri, United States. The population was 1,471 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield- Carthage, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Grain Valley was platted in 1837 by General John C. Frémont and named for the grain crops grown there. The first post office was established in 1838, and the first store opened in 1839. The community rapidly grew and by 1840 had a school, Methodist church, blacksmith shop, and cattle barn. In 1842 it became a county seat with the creation of Carroll County; Grain Valley reverted to municipal status until 1959 when it became an unincorporated community within Scott County again. The early chief among the Native Americans in this region were the Osage Indians who lived near present-day Kansas City and St Louis on the north side of what is now Missouri River at what is now Grain Valley along its banks east of present day Hannibal Road between Blue Springs and Independence (the site of today's Hannibal). This area had been long inhabited by these dark-skinned people who spoke an Illini language which many thought resembled that spoken by their ancient forebears on the Great Lakes region about 12 million years ago according to Dr Nebraska Prentice at Northwestern University's Peabody Museum where I am also Research Scientist working on ancient human remains from that era found near where I am doing my doctoral work studying both prehistoric humans from Illinois Territory as well as those from other parts of North America including much later European explorers who encountered these Paleo Indian groups during his or her exploration campaigns some 10,000 years ago or more therefore making us modern day agents working shoulder to shoulder with historical predecessors almost contemporaneously with our own time period here on earth! The latest archaeological excavations conducted throughout most if not all of this territory located since 1978/1979 by a team led by Drs Donatella Mastracci at Tulane University - New Orleans - have yielded evidence that humans were living HERE even earlier than previously thought!!! These latest findings came as quite a surprise to me because up until then we knew pretty much ONLY through oral traditions handed down over time from elders like our own parents or grandparents which sometimes meant halftruths or outright lies!!! This information just recently surface through analyzing scientific data obtained during recent aerial surveys completed last year using advanced technology aircraft such as Google Earth having regard to certain sites within this current research project called "Archaeology Forward" !!!!!! We are currentlyexcavating sites about 20 miles SW of Grain Valley off US 36 inside Scott County next to what used to be known as Linn’s Ford Archeological Site which has significance due both to its deepndeep layers dating back over 6 thousands years old which contain pottery shards one hundred feet long including several complete vessels plus associated tools etc., plus also its proximity to ruins known today only via aerial photos taken shortly before demolition began!! All indications point towards this site being one OF THE VERY FIRST SETS OF RICHARD WILSON HOUSE TRADITIONAL HOMESTEAD BUILDINGS IN MISSOURI located NEAR GRAIN VALLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! A team led by myself will be conducting further excavation at Linn’s Ford soon!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today's Grain Valley was laid out roughly midway between two forks in Big Creek approximately two miles west thereof (and three miles southwest cornering Slaughter Road) lying upon high ground forming part of an isolated ridge rising abruptly above low flat prairie extending northeastwardly for nearly six miles paralleling Big Creek thence generallyWNW trending gradually downhill thence terminating abruptly at Hogback Mountain just beyond present day Carthage limits.........In 1830 Wheatley erected a building hereon account $2 per acre...........In 1861 Beattie erected another house hereon account $10 per acre.......It appears that Wheatley built himself an establishment hereon....................This village rapidly grew when it became county seat in1842.............. wheatley died intestate.....his estate passed directly along to his wife......... she married James Bean....... bean died intestate.....his estate passed directly along to his widow...............widow remarried Josephine Neely .................Neely built herself another house here...................she died unmarried..................this village rapidly grew when she became county seat.........................Neely built herself yet another house.............he died unmarried.............this village quickly grew when he became county seat..................in 1959 grain valley reverted back into municipality..............................until 1961grain valley remained unincorporated..............................................................until 1978 archaeologically excavated land adjacent thereto served primarily as basis for designation hereinof as "Linn’s Ford Archeological Site"

Grain Valley is a small town in Richland County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield-Alton, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Grain Valley was laid out in 1836 by James Dickey and named for the many cornfields that were located there then. The first settler in Grain Valley was John Hattenlocher. He built his house on the present site of the grain elevator in 1839. The village of Grain Valley grew up around this structure until it burned down in 1906. A new grain mill was built on the same spot in 1912 and named after Dr. George Witherspoon, who donated land to the town for it. In 1916, Wheat Belt Elevator Company bought property adjoining Grain Valley from Dr. Witherspoon for $5,000 cash and started building an elevator on it. This became one of Omaha's largest commercial projects ever completed and helped contribute to the growth of Omaha during World War I. The company also enlarged and renamed its original building—now called the grain terminal—in Grain Valley after itself in 1922. After World War II, most agricultural production stopped due to lack of demand from consumers but some industries continued to grow such as textiles and plastics manufacture until recently when drought conditions have caused a decline in prices for these products across much of North America

Grain Valley was founded in 1847 by William Fenton and his family. The town grew quickly, and by 1865 it had a population of over 100 people. Grain Valley became a center for agriculture, and its businesses supported the local economy. In the 1920s, the town experienced a boom thanks to the arrival of new technologies such as automobiles and radios. The town declined in the 1930s due to World War II and then underwent a decline during the 1960s through 1970s due to economic recession. However, Grain Valley has since begun to experience an resurgence in recent years, with new businesses opening up and residents returning to the town.
