The Gladden brothers were among the first settlers of what would become Gladston County. They arrived around 1830 from Ireland with their families and built cabins on land that they donated to the government for development into what is now Gladston County. George Gladden became an entrepreneur early on, founding two stores and then starting another one on credit – an unheard-of practice at that time. He also served as county treasurer for many years before moving away from politics altogether to focus on his businesses full-time around 1840s when slavery began declining across much of North America due to abolitionism movements underway at that time . After George’s death circa 1850, his brother James took over running things at The Gleadstones Store while James’ wife ran Household (later renamed Home Depot) adjacent down below until her death circa 1925 which left James as sole proprietor/. In 1865 James’ son Samuel took over running things again butSamuel passed away without heirs some years later leaving it once again vacant until finally being taken over by Harry Huffman who reopened it as Huffman's Hardware back in 1978 which still operates today!
