Fulton is a city in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the Missouri River. The first settler in Fulton was Alexander McGillivray and his family who arrived in 1806. In 1812, General James Krieger founded a trading post here called "Krieger's Post" which served as a junction for wagon trains heading to St. Louis and other eastern markets. The town began to grow rapidly after railroads were built nearby in 1846 and1853. The arrival of the railroad brought new development including gangs of white laborers called "Gangstas." In 1886, Jens Jensen opened what became Jensensen's Brewery which helped to revive Fulton during its early years of growth. With rapid industry growth came social unrest as working class residents were displaced by newcomers and businessmen seeking more profits from transportation connections necessary for their businesses. However, with advances in technology such as automobiles and radios Fulton regained some stability during the late 19th century with several successful businesses opening up including banks, grocery stores, printing presses, light companies and theaters throughout the cityscape before disappearing again into obscurity during World War I when manufacturing moved out of town due to America's neutrality policy

Fulton was a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States, founded in 1821 by Edward Fenton and his brother Nathaniel. The community became a county seat in 1837 and then reverted to its original name after the creation of Fulton County. Fulton was laid out on the east side of the confluence of the Platte River and Raccoon Creek, near present day Grayslake. It was named for Samuel Fulton, an Englishman who had settled in this area in 1798. In 1821, Edward Fenton and Nathaniel Fenton built what is now the first permanent settler's house in Fulton. They named their home "Pine Ridge". The first store opened at Pine Ridge on July 1, 1825. The town prospered from its early days due to its location, good soil and access to water supplies. By 1830, however, population growth hadOutpaced growth at Pine Ridge so development began elsewhere around town. In 1834-35 James Hightower built a sawmill downstream from Pine Ridge which became one of the most important mills in Fulton until it closed operations around 1960s due to competition from larger mills upstream. In 1840-41 Isaac Hegarty established a starch mill on an tributary of the Raccoon Creek near current day Grayslake which prospered until it closed too late to save against competition from other starch mills upstream as well as downstream by Hegarty's son David Hegarty Sr.. A Methodist church and school were also built soon after outset with Baptist services being held there occasionally until 1870 when both denominations merged into one another under that name (the Baptists later left). The building that remains today as part of Fulton Municipal Library is also oldest building still standing within Fulton limits still used for public instruction up through high school years (since converted into apartments). Fulton was founded in 1837 by Daniel Fulton and his wife, Nancie. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Missouri River, and it soon became a major railroad center. In 1862, Fulton was attacked by Confederate forces, and although the town was briefly liberated, it ultimately surrendered. The town’s economy nevertheless declined after the war, and it fell victim to social unrest that characterized much of the Midwest during the late 19th century. By 1925, however, Fulton had regained some of its former prosperity thanks to declines in freight rates and population growth. The town has since experienced steady growth and is now one of the most populous cities in Missouri.
