Fulton is a town in central Missouri, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–St. Joseph Micropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1835 by Captain Jeremiah Fulton and his family. Fulton was named after James Floyd, an American Revolutionary War soldier and member of the General Assembly from Kentucky who died in 1799 while fighting for independence from Great Britain. It has been reported that Captain Fulton's wife gave her husbands name to their small community because she thought it would be a more lasting honor than "Floydstown" (a local renamed locality). The town site was patented to Captains Fulton and Augustus Cripps on March 5, 1835, as follows: "In consideration of good Counsel given me by them I have agreed to this Patent." A post office called Fulton was established at this location March 6, 1835, and remained in operation until it was discontinued November 3, 1906. The first settler at what is now Fulton were three brothers - George Washington Jones, Johnathan Evans and Ebenezer Cook - all of whom arrived about 1830 from North Carolina. They began operations as a farmstead with six tenant farmers who rotated through the property every two years or so; eventually they acquired enough land to form their own village with a store, schoolhouse and other buildings which they built on the same spot where they currently live today. Captain Jeremiah Fulton served as one of the original trustees for K-12 Stonington School District #2 which serves parts of Fulton Township including portions of present day Springdale Township adjacent to K-12 High School located across US Route 40 just east of downtown Springfield; he also served on various township committees during his lifetime totaling over 20 years service total including 4 terms on County Council/Supervisorships resulting in him being able to chair several meetings during his tenure residents are still referred to as 'Fultonians' even though living within walking distance of their former home now located just off US Route 40 outsideSpringdale township & inside downtown Springfield

Fulton was founded in 1821 by Isaac Lyon and brother Elijah. The town was named after George Washington, who had been born in the same year in nearby Alexandria, Virginia. Fulton quickly became a prosperous trading center due to its natural resources, including timber and slaves. In 1836, the town received a charter from the Missouri General Assembly, making it an official town of Missouri. The early years of Fulton were difficult for both the townspeople and the settlers who arrived there. Many people died from malaria or other diseases brought over by the travelers and traders who visited Fulton during its early days. However, by 1840, things had improved enough that a school was built and residents developed businesses such as tanneries and flour mills. In 1861, when Confederate soldiers burned down part of Fulton while seeking refuge on horseback outside of town, many residents fled to neighboring Jefferson City before finally returning to safety two years later. After the war ended, many people left Fulton for new opportunities in Kansas City or St Louis; however, some remained until around 1920 when most of what remains today was laid out as part of downtown's redevelopment project
Fulton was founded in 1837 by George Smith and his brother Elijah. The brothers started a farm on the confluence of the Missouri River and Fulton Creek. In 1841, they built a log cabin known as "The Cabin on the Creek" which served as their home until they moved to what is now downtown Fulton in 1851. In 1865, General James M. Steele entered into an agreement with Cairo, Illinois for the shipment of goods overland from that city to St. Louis through Fulton. This event is often considered the beginning of interstate commerce in Missouri. In 1875, General John Sibley sold his share in the company to J.P. Morgan and Company for $2 million dollars making Fulton one of the largest cotton plantations in America at that time. The plantation continued to be operated by J.P.'s descendants until it was acquired by Dow Chemical Company in 1987-1988 and mothballed there until it was auctioned off last year with some portions leased back to local farmers while others remain under lease with Monsanto Co., Inc.. Today, much of what used to be called "Dow's Cotton Plantation" remains within downtown Fulton but most of its acreage has been developed into office space and other uses since then (eagerly awaiting re-acquisition). Today's downtown Fulton is located on both banks of the Missouri River across from Interstate 65 just north of where it crossed over from Union County into Douglas County before flowing into Clay county; part of this area formerly consisted of what is now I-65 between Downtown Fulton Street eastward along Broadway Avenue southward past Midtown Plaza mall - bounded by Pryor Boulevard - westward down Broadway Avenue northward - thence turning eastward along North State Street northeast towards Highway 66
