They built their house on the north side of Route 66 between present-day Rockwood Road and Florissant Avenue. On October 12 of that year, Kunta Kinta received word from traders at Fort Smith that there was gold available for sale near Independence, Kansas Territory (now Oklahoma). After much speculation about where to find the goldfields, many people land claims were filed around Fulton including those of Captains John Aiken and Elias Boudinot. Commodore Matthew Perry's fleet blockaded Mexican ports during the Mexican–American War (1847-1848) providing an opportunity for American settlers to establish themselves along the Arkansas River valley east of Mexico City. The first buildings were erected in this new settlement with crude lumber brought overland by wagonloads from Independence or Jefferson County。 In 1854, Captains James K Polk and John Gaselee organized the first Merchants' Association Meeting to promote trade with other parts of Missouri and beyond through joint enterprise with others merchants scattered throughout central Missouri under similar auspices; this body being called "The First National Bank" because it originated out of this association - Banks having refused to become members until they felt assured that they would be able to defend themselves against any future government restrictions upon commerce which could arise from internal governmental sources…. On November 2nd Mayor George Capps proposed Glasgow Township as its nameakesake instead of Fulton – soon after its incorporation….. In 1902 citizens agreed unanimously to change their name back to “Fulton” following discussion among them at a meeting chaired by Mayor Hargrave….Many newcomers found their way here during these years so much so that one member designated “Fulton Square” three blocks south of downtown on Broadway………the current site where City Hall now stands was actually laid out as part of what is now known as Manhattan Square when it was platted within what is today Cockrell Heights neighborhood c1900s

Fulton was founded in 1836 by James Montgomery and others as a small trading post on the Missouri River. In 1839, it became the first town in Fulton County. The present-day city was founded in 1905 by Methodists from Illinois.
