Ammunition manufacturing began in Fulton in the 1830s and continued until the mid-19th century. The first ammunition store opened in Fulton in 1836. In 1847, a factory was built on State Road 5 near present-day Uniontown to produce rifle cartridges. The first commercial shotgun ammunition production took place at the Town Ordnance Factory from 1856 to 1860. Shotgun ammo became an important part of American warfare during the Civil War because it provided high-capacity rounds for shotguns that could fire multiple times per minute. Ammunition manufacturing resumed following the war and remained a significant sector of local economy until World War II when Vickers munitions Manufacturing Corporation moved its headquarters to nearby Springfield, Missouri, making Fulton one of only a few Cities Outside of Chicago To Have A National Headquarters During That Era (the others being New York City and Philadelphia). In 1951, MECOM Holdings Inc., which controlled Winchester Arms Company (Winchester) merged with Remington Arms Company (Remington) resulting in production of handguns at their Springfield Armory plant becoming outsourced to Forster Firearms Corporation who produced firearms under contract thereunder through 1955 when that company ceased operations due to financial troubles; however, Forster Firearms Corporation still produces firearms under their own name as late as 1984 though all product lines are now produced by Glock AG through their Austrian branch Glock GmbH although most products are no longer exported outside Of Austria

Despite its growth, however, Fulton experienced several challenges during its time as an Official City including a devastating fire that destroyed much of downtown in 1922. However, through hard work and determination, Fulton regained many of its former glory by 1930 when it became known as "The Most Cosmopolitan City On The Mississippi". Today, Fulton is a thriving community with strong economic ties to neighboring cities such as St Louis and Kansas City.
Fulton was founded on May 2, 1813 by Alexander Dunlap and David Levy. The town was named for George Fulton, an early settler. On November 1, 1821, the Territorial Legislature passed a bill establishing the city of Fulton as a seat of government for the newly organized Missouri Territory. The legislature also authorized the erection of buildings in the town to serve as a courthouse and jail. The first building in what is now Fulton was built on Main Street. In 1861, when Missouri seceded from the Union, Fulton became an independent state and it continued to be governed by its own local government until 1907. In that year, however, the state legislature passed a bill creating a new system of government for all towns in Missouri with over 10 thousand residents. Under this system, Fulton became part of Jefferson City and remained that way until 1971 when it reverted back to its original name - Fulton
