Florissant, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks of central Missouri. The population was 5,442 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–St Charles, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was organized in 1837 and named for Florissant, Illinois, then a community in Clay County. A post office was established here in 1838, and it continued to be called Florissant until it became Florissant Village on November 15, 1905. The name change reflected the growing importance of transportation here due to its location at the convergence of three railroad lines: the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (now part of Kansas City),the Butterfield Overland Mail Railroad (now I-435), and the Western Union Telegraph Company's line from St Louis to Kansas City. The first store built in Florissant was a general store operated by JF Hargrave from 1839 to 1840. In 1841 Hargrave partnered with Samuel Bolton to open a grocery store and begin merchandising crops such as corn and beans. They soon added flour, sugar, butter, bacon, eggs, cheese, milk products and other groceries which helped make Florissant one of the most important towns in northern Missouri during this time period. In 1865 local farmers started raising hogs for food; this led to increased demand for hay that year which also led to an increase in output from agricultural production in Florissant village early on; however later that decade when more animal feed was available these operations were discontinued because they could not compete with larger hog farms located east of town near Rolla or Hannibal). This pattern would continue through much of subsequent decades as local farmers reverted back to raising horses or cattle instead due primarily to higher prices generated by large hog farms while their own acreage decreased significantly within minutes’ ride outside town limits where commercial farming now dominates resulting an ever increasing number/density of housing units along several major arterial routes providing all manner of retail amenities including restaurants/cafes/gas stations/entertainment venues etc., thereby reducing access both physically and economically necessary for residents inside town limits who increasingly rely upon commercial activities within easy reach offering little if any services beyond basic needs like grocery shopping or short-term repairs & replacements items required by busy locals living outside boundaries

The town's loss led to its decline over the next few decades. However, it regained some popularity after being featured in an episode of "The Simpsons" as Vote Rock City.
