In 1827, Florissant became an incorporated municipality with a population size exceeding 200 souls and developed into one ofSt.Louis County's most thriving towns during its early years as an agricultural center with markets for both fresh produce and meat products; flour mills; brickyards; wagon roads connecting various farms; several churches including First Methodist Church (1824), Second Baptist Church (1828), Presbyterian Episcopal Church (1829) – each constructed in response to growing religious interest in this developing community – two banks - John Anderton & Sons bank (founded 1834) and Pemberton National Bank - soon followed by other businesses such as mercers store, cigar store, saddlery store, harness shop and hotel until 1907 when it closed its doors forever due to market saturation by larger city communities in this developing region Florissant experienced significant growth following World War I when many soldiers returning from fighting found work here at local factories producing munitions or returned home after demobilization A post office was established at Florissant in 1902 along with a schoolhouse which served grades K-12 In 1938, much like most other U.S. towns during this time period additional stores were opened such as Hardee's restaurant which attracted people from nearby suburbs looking for affordable food vernacular architecture characterized many rural StLans during this time including shotgun style homes built around elaborate gardens typical of these areas while some more recent additions have included newer housing developments
