The company started producing rifle barrels in 1854 under license from Jesse Stroud, who also founded Armour & Co., one of Florissant's biggest businesses at that time. In 1896, two brothers named George Wiegand and Harry Wiegand founded what would become known as WMAGY corp (the current owner) after starting their own manufacturing company in nearby Alton Heights, Illinois which produced ammunition for military guns during World War I.WMAGY Corp manufactured ammunition for over 100 years before selling it off in 2001 to Winchester Arms Corporation (Winchester). Florissant, Missouri is an unincorporated community in south central Missouri, United States. It is located on the border of Union County and St. Francois County. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The Florissant post office was established in 1868, and continued operation until it was discontinued in 1905. The first settler in Florissant was John Higgs, who arrived there with his family in 1871. They built a cabin on a hill overlooking the town. The Higgs family remained active in Florissant throughout their years there and died all but one child There were also several other settlers during this time including George Withers and his son Hiram Withers who both died unmarried within a few years of each other after arriving to live near their father's farmstead In 1875, two men by the name of Beasley and Sitton bought land adjoining Higgs' property for $27 per acre This land would become known as "Beasley's Prairie". They laid out a town square which included a schoolhouse, hotel/motel, grocery store, blacksmith shop and others buildings incidental to early settlement. Businesses started up here very quickly due to good transportation connections available from nearby towns such as Jefferson City or Springfield In addition to these businesses many people worked on farms surrounding the town which supplied food for local residents By 1910 only two buildings remain standing today in downtown Florissant: A bank building (now used as apartments) original designed by architect Charles Fenton Tiffany and still standing next door to what is now called "The Gables" restaurant;and The Post Office building original designed by architects Jens Jacobsen & Edward Thorp with its characteristic brick veneer . These buildings are significant examples of late 19th century architecture because they are still functioning complete without major repairs or updates more than 120 years after they were built

Florissant is a small town in St. Joseph County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named for Flora Henningsen, who donated land to the community in 1873. The first settlers in Florissant were Fenton and his family who came from Denmark in 1836. They built a cabin on what is now Park Avenue and started a farming operation which continued until 1847 when they left because of the Panic of 1847. In 1870, James Murchison bought some of Fenton's land and began to build a log cabin on what is now Elm Street. He named it Florissant after his home country of Norway (now part of Finland). In 1872, he married Anna Maria Hillquist and moved into their new house with their two children; Anna Margrethe (1872-1973) and John Julius Murchison (1874-1947). For many years, James ran the farm with help from his wife and three children while John did schoolwork at an early age so that he could take over when Jim passed away in 1947. In 1896, Jens Jensen purchased some more land from James Murchison including what is now Main Street where he built his one story frame building which still stands today as Florissant's only landmark - directly across from Park Avenue Elementary School which was first established in 1912/13 as "Central High School". Jensen also founded Kirchen & Jenssen hardware store next door on Main Street which became one of the most popular businesses in town with its wide variety of products including groceries, hardware items and other sundry items until it closed down around 1974 due to financial problems but has been preserved intact since then as Heritage Landmark #72337 within Heritage Development Properties Incorporation d/b/a Missouri Valley Community College District No 2 located inside East High School off I-435 outside Florissant Township limits adjacent to Kirchen & Jenssen Hardware Store frontage lot - just east of Euclid Road south side line running northwesterly along I-435 between US 60 Business Loop exit 12 westbound concurrent WITH residential areas currently zoned for Grades 9 thru 12 without any commercial development or vehicular access being allowed within 500 feet thereof comprising approximately 170 trees planted therein by original owner Mrs Jane Jensen prior thereto having large flower garden backing property lines fronts facing eastward main street
