Florissant, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks region of Missouri. The population was 4,711 at the 2010 Census. Florissant is part of the Florissant-based micropolitan area which covers all of Clay and Pike counties in southeastern Missouri. The first mention of Florissant was on a map made by Andrew Jackson in 1812. At that time it was known as "Plymouth." Florissant's name comes from two early French colonists, François de Lamarche (1727-1801) and his wife Marie-Thérèse Gondry (1730-1806). De Lamarche came from Aix-en-Provence, France in 1764 and settled near present day Florissant. Gondry came from Toulouse, France in 1768 and settled near present day Florissant. In 1812, when Jackson invaded Missouri he found this land to be very valuable due to its strategic location between Memphis and St. Louis ability to supply goods with ease and its lack of woodlands or rivers which would have impaired trade. He named the town after himself, Christopher Columbus FlorISSANT or Christopher Columbus'Land east of the Mississippi River according to some sources while others say it was named for General James KENTUCKY (1775-1848), who defeated an American army at Pea Ridge Battlefield on May 3, 1807 prior to becoming President of the United States on November 8th that year. After Independence were added Clay and Pike Counties making up what is now eastern Missouri; Florissant became a Micropolitan Area with all 5 counties within its boundaries; expanding into neighboring states such as Arkansas, Kentucky & Tennessee along with Illinois & Wisconsin over time until it reached its current size today! The growth of agriculture during this time led to increased industry including logging but also resulted in other townships being founded around here such as Lookout Hill Township formed about 1830 by John DICKERSON who platted his land around what is now Callaway Village while still living in Plymouth Township; Mill Creek Township formed about 1840 by Ebenezer COOPER who platted his land around where Paintsville presently stands whilestill living in Lookout Valley Township; German Settlement began around 1850 when families moved from Germany into what is now adjacent Arkansaw County while still living scattered throughout rural Clay County; black Americans arrived beginning about 1860 following Reconstruction when slavery was abolished across much of America following Abraham LINCOLN's Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st 1863 further tightening control over slave markets within Union territory allowing free people access to resources formerly controlled by slaveowners! Today there are many businesses based here including doctors offices, dentists, restaurants etc.; givingFlorISSANT an overall feeling like one big community! Florissant is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Florissant was founded in 1854 and named for Captain James Florissant who led an expedition to explore the Missouri River valley in 1839. The first settler in Florissant was John Sherer and his family, who arrived in 1854. In 1865, George Aiken moved to Florissant from Carthage Heights on the east side of the river. He ranched land here until his death in 1896. The first school establishement occurred in 1865 when Reverend Augustus Green opened a school at what is now Main Street and Third Avenue. In 1870, Colonel J N Downing purchased land south of Main Street from Reverend Green for $2,000 cash and built a store and home there called "New Manor." This store stayed open until it burned down on December 7th, 1886. New Manor served as headquarters for many early Florissant residents including Mrs. Julia Child (1847-1929), Mrs. W H Smith (1851-1927), Drs M C Weisiger (1886-1964), S D Lipstadt (1904-1994) and Dr A J Kappelmeyer (1920-.). In 1908 Major General USA Ewell took over command of First Corps Army during World War I stationed at Fort Riley across the river from Florissant where he developed skirmishes with German forces which resulted in several deaths around town near where he stood watch that day according to History buffs this event became known as "Ewell's Massacre." After World War I ended General John Pershing ordered all Black Americans out of any military service because they were not white enough according to historian Richard Hofstadter There are numerous stories about how Pershing felt about black Americans serving but no one knows for sure if this order actually came from him or someone higher up within the army In 1920 Mr R L Hill founded Citizens' Alloys Corporation located on what is now Fourth Street just north of US Highway 394 which manufactured cast iron products such as water fountains, cisterns and sinkers etc.. One story has it that some farmers nearby complained because their crops were being damaged by children playing outdoors so Mr Hill started manufacturing Playlands playground equipment which he sold door to door . The company continued operations until 1973 when it merged with other companies producing similar items to discontinue product sales altogether In 1954 Captain James Fenton led an exploration party into what is today North Dakota via Illinois River below today's Florissant after exploring possible sites for a new post along the lower Missouri River Valley route following reports of gold discovered along that stretch of course back then . Upon returning home Capt Fenton recommended moving settlers here from present day St Louis County due to lack thereof available land . By 1860 there were 115 people living here with 5 stores/markets & 2 schools functioning . By 1870 there were 229 people living here with 14 stores/markets & 6 schools functioning . In 1900 total population reached 375 people with 25 stores/markets & 12 schools functioning however by 1910 population had dropped below 300 people with only 10 stores/markets & 4 schools functioning however by 1920 population had increased again reaching 350 people however by 1930 it had decreased once more reducing below 300 again before declining further

In 1853, Florissant became an incorporated town and continued to grow, becoming a major center for trade and commerce. The town's growth led to its incorporation into the city of St. Louis in 1871. However, Florissant continue to grow and prosper until its final days as a small town on the banks of the Missouri River.
