In 1907, the American Arms Manufacturing Company was founded in Florissant to produce machine guns for the military. The two companies merged in 1918, becoming American Arsenal Corporation. American Arsenal produced a wide variety of firearms including pistols, rifles, shotguns, and cannons through World War II. After the war ended, the company ceased production and filed for bankruptcy in 1951.

Florissant is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1868 by James L. Florissant and his family as a small farming community on theedge of what are now Edwardsville and Florissant townships in St. Francois County. The original settlers were mainly German immigrants who had come to America from Germany in search of a better life. James L.'s brother-in-law, John Pritchard, donated land to the town for development and named it after himself and his wife Lucilla (nee Hurd). In 1871, Florissant became one of two towns within the new city of Kansas City; it retained its autonomy until 1907 when KCMO was established as an independent municipality with its own government and school district. During World War II, Florissant served as an auxiliary airfield for the USAAF during Operation Overlord which began on September 2, 1944 and ended on December 15th 1945 due to wartime restrictions on military activity in Europe that applied to both the St Louis area and Kansas City metropolitan area. After World War II, most people left Florissant for other parts of Missouri or Illinois because of increased competition for jobs inKansas City which had become increasingly urbanized since 1950s; however, some residents continued to live in their original homes throughOUT THE YEARS UNTIL THEIR HOME SOLD OR THEY OUTGOT ANOTHER FAMILY TO MOVE INTO THEIR HOME AGAIN AFTER KANSAS CITY WAS GONE BUSINESSES DID NOT SPEED UP SO MUCH IN THE 1970S AND 1980S SO ALL OF FLORISSANT CAME DOWN IN VALUE BUT THEN IT STARTED TO INCREASE AGAIN IN THE 1990S WHEN THERE WERE MORE PEOPLE COMING BACK TO FLORISSANT THEN EVER BEFORE AND NOW FLORISSANT IS BACK TO ITS PREVIOUS STATE WHERE IT'S A SMALL TOWN WITH SOME GOOD FARM ACTIVITIES BUT ALSO A LOT OF NON-FAMILY ACTIVITIES LIKE A MUSEUM OR RADIO SHOW STATIONS
