One of these businesses was the Armsmith Shop. The Armsmith Shop was established in 1818 by Amos Newton. The store became known for its quality and fine workmanship on firearms. In 1951, when Festus reverted back to an elected government, one of the first items on the agenda was creating a city hall. In order to provide more space for City Hall, funds were obtained from local residents and business owners to purchase land at 4th Street and Illinois Avenue. This location is now home to downtown Festus. One of the earliest events held at downtownFestus was called “Festival Parade” which started on July 5th, 1951 and ended on July 8th with a display by Locomotive No 923-A (formerly US Airways). That year also saw the first annual shotgun show located in downtown festus which featured some of today’s top shotguns including Beretta Model 1900 pistols chambered in .410 caliber cartridges as well as Remington Model 7600 pump shotguns manufactured by Barnett Manufacturing Company Incorporated from Chicago IL.) It should be noted that this event also served as an opportunity for new residents who had recently moved into town to meet other residents before making any decisions about their future in town! The parade provided an excellent chance for people to get acquainted with each other while shopping around town during busy summertime periods! Another event that took place in downtown festus during this time frame was called “Shooting Gallery” which featured demonstrations by experiencedgunsmiths from different parts of America who would teach various aspects of shooting including dry fire drills, live fire drills etc.). This event helped develop relationships between individuals within our community and fostered pride among young shooters who desired instruction or just enjoyed watching others shoot! Two weeks later on August 15th, 1951 Mayor Wrage announced that he would be hosting his first municipal electionidemain contest(now known as Municipal Election Day)at Town Hall Lawn where citizens could cast ballots directly from their homes!! voter registration forms were available at Town Hall through September 3rd so everyone should have had plenty of time to cast their votes prior to election day! A notableevent occurred during this campaign season when Dr James Fenton offered his services as polling officer!!! Another noteworthy event happened February 11th 1952 when Mr John Weir opened up his namesake restaurant located at 501 S 4th St which soon became becoming one of most popular tourist destinations in town……..and still is today!

The Festus, Missouri gun case history begins with a Mr. and Mrs. John W. Hickey who bought a shotgun in 1923 from E.C. Quillen & Sons at the old Farmers’ Market on State Street in town. The shotgun was later registered with the Missouri state government and is still being used today by the Hickey family. In 1955, Mrs. Hickey passed away and her husband took over ownership of the shotgun and kept it in their home until his death in 1978. The shotgun then passed to their son, John W. Jr., who continued to use it until he sold it to a man named Clyde Ritchie in 1984. Ritchie also registered the shotgun with the state government and continues to use it today as his personal weapon of choice!
Festus, Missouri is a town located in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. The name of the town derives from Belgian explorer and general François-Jacques Cartier named it for Festus, an important battle site in Roman history. Founded in 1836 by stagecoach drivers and their families who were looking for a place to homestead after migrating from Illinois and Indiana, Festus grew slowly but steadily over the next few decades until its peak in 1860 when it had 2,500 residents. By 1870 however, all but 120 of Festus' residents had departed for other parts of the country as the Panic of 1873 hit hard across America. However, because of its location on Stagecoach Road and its close proximity to Hannibal University (now Hannibal- berkeley University), which began operation in 1837 as a teacher training school and became one of America's most prestigious institutions of higher learning, Festus continued to thrive through the panic years into the late 19th century. In 1907–08 only a handful of residents remained withintown limits; however during World War I many citizens joined up with military service and returned home; this period also saw significant growth due to burgeoning agricultural production around town as well as increased industry towards the end of the 19th century which led to new development such as commercial buildings on Main Street. An early effort at tornado avoidance occurred on November 11th 1888 when severe thunderstorms touched down near downtown Festus causing extensive damage including a number of outbuildings including a barn that collapsed killing six horses inside; fortunately no human beings were injured in this event although some property damage was extensive enough that construction was not possible immediately following landfall).

The town has since regained some of its former rural character with more than 30 small businesses located within its limits including several banks and several churches/mosques along with some large-scale businesses such as Ford Motor Company’s Ferguson Assembly Plant and First National Bank of Missouri Valley City (later JBS Elec Engrg Co).
