Festus, Missouri was founded in 1839 and has been a part of the United States of America since 1847. The city is located in the eastern third of the state and is known for its rolling hills, fresh air, and wide open spaces. The population of Festus reached over 20,000 in 2010 and is expected to grow even more in the next decade. Festus was one of the earliest settlements in what would become Missouri. A post office was established in 1839, and by 1850 there were over 100 residents living in town. By 1860, there were over 350 people living in town. In 1865, a school was built on Gay Street near present-day First Baptist Church. Shooting protection history began here at Festus Municipal Airport when two businessmen donated land for a pistol range that wouldlater become known as "The Pistol Place". Owned by Harvey Wilburn from 1936 to 1942 and Harry Fenton from 1943 to 1954, their range became one of the most popular shooting destinations around town for both beginners and experienced shooters alike. In 1946, FN Herstal Corporation purchased The Pistol Place from Harvey Wilburn and renamed it "The Rifle Range". This facility served as home to FN's 3-gun competition division until 1987 when it was closed down due to lack of competition; however, it still remains an important source of education for those interested in learning how to shoot firearms safely. In 1990s efforts were made to renovate/upgrade this facility which included installation of new equipment including a pressurized rifle range (the first such project undertaken at Festus Municipal Airport), pistol ranges for women (initially limited to men only), as well as expansion into other sports disciplines such as Ultimate Frisbee golfing (now available year-round). New facilities have also been constructed onsite including a youth academy which opened its doors in 2013 followed by an adult academy later that year. With continued growth within the community & increasing demand from visitors & locals alike for training & recreation opportunities within walking distance (& easy access), future plans include expanding existing areas such as an amphitheater capable of seating up to 1000 people which will allow Festival events & meetings inside while still providing plenty of outdoor shooting lanes available outside should weather preclude activity indoors during inclement weather conditions!

The first settler in Festus was John Funk who arrived in 1827. The town was founded on the east bank of the Arkansas River by George Hettinger and others in 1872. It became an incorporated town on February 12, 1902. In 1906, Festus had a post office with a name change to honour President Theodore Roosevelt which it kept until it closed on October 11, 1966 due to financial problems. The community's nickname "Festival Place" comes from its annualFestivals which take place throughout the year including July 4th and Labor Day Weekend. There are also several annual farmers markets open late into the night each fall as well as several cultural events throughout the year such as Shakespeare In The Park or Folkloric Dance performances by area bands or choirs

Festus was a small town in Missouri, United States, located in the Ozarks. The town was founded by William and Nancy Ladd in 1838. It was originally called "Ladd's Springs." The Ladds migrated from Illinois to this area in the 1830s. At first there were only two stores and a post office. By 1840, there were four stores and a school. In 1846, Festus had ten residents and one store. In 1847, the Post Office moved from its original location to the present day building on Main Street. In 1850, the population of Festus reached twenty-one residents. By 1860, it had increased to thirty-four residents. In 1865, Festus became part of Franklin County when it was organized as one of seven towns in that county. By 1870, it had become an agricultural center with eleven farms and five churches. In 1880, it had fifteen farms and six churches. After statehood arrived in Missouri in 1861, many farmers left for Arkansas due to low prices for land there while they could still find marketable acreage hereabouts; however some did remain until after the Civil War ended (1865). One reason why farmsteads declined during Reconstruction is because "farmers who could not sell their lands sold them out to railroads or other developers." By 1890–91 about fifty residences occupied Main Street; nine businesses conducted business on that street; thirteen local schools operated on that street between Main and Spring Streets; twelve sawmill businesses used Main Street between Spring and Elm Streets as their main roadway artery; two general stores conducted business on Elm Street between Spring and Jackson Streets; three blacksmith shops used both Main Street east of Elm Streets (between Jackson Boulevard northward) as well as Jackson Boulevard westward connecting with Elm streets at corner intersections for services rendered thereto: seventeen local farmer families resided within walking distance of most social activities which included religious services offered weekly at five different Methodist Churches--eleven white Methodist families also attended these services occasionally participated regularlyville boasted five water wheels all serviceable--five miles Long River ran through rear part of town watered by Mr Trumbull's well pump Population growth rates are based upon census figures from 1860-2010
