In 1827, Jesse James and his followers were cornered by sheriff's deputies while They were barnstorming through this area near present-day Jenningsville. After being surrounded and lacking reinforcements, James surrendered without any shots being fired and was taken into custody with his bandanna around his neck (this event became known as "the cattle drive"). In 1853, George Stephenson built the first railroad line in what is now Festus when he constructed the Kansas City & Springfield Railroad between these two cities. This line helped bring muchneeded business and jobs to town during the early days of town growth; many local businesses still survive today thanks to this corridor’s legacy! In 1907, about 20 percent of all residents lived within one mile of downtown Festus; by 2005 that number had increased to over 50 percent! DowntownFestus experienced rapid growth following World War II due to its strategic location as a major industrial center for St. Louis County and its relationship with other neighboring cities like Kansas City and Springfield. During that time downtown festuses impressive neon signs spelled out "DowntownFestUS" from various businesses along Main Street which can be seen today throughout most of downtownStLouis County! The downtownfestusa movement started dwindling after 2000 but has slowly been revived over recent years because there are many opportunities for tourists once they get heresuch as walking tours or taking pictures on top of old buildings
Festus, Missouri was a small community in southern Randolph County, Missouri, United States. It was located on the west bank of the Arkansas River and consisted of just over a hundred residents at its peak in the early 1800s. The community developed around a Methodist Episcopal church and some agricultural land. In 1856, Festus voted to become a town and renamed itself after General John J. Pershing, who had served in Mexico during the Mexican-American War. The town disappeared by 1860 due to increased competition from nearby Arkadelphia and other towns on the west bank of the Arkansas River.
