During World War II (1939-1945), many people from Missouri relocated to Illinois due to wartime demand for military weapons production; however, some residents remained behind to maintain connections with their home state while living elsewhere . One such resident was Mrs. Lillie Kapp who lived in rural Decatur County until her death two years ago; she had been instrumental in maintaininggun sights history within her community during its formative years . In 1847, John Bowerman settled down on the east side of Main Street just north of where Lucy Lowrie-Denton lives today. Bowerman operated an ice cream parlor called “The Creamery” for many years before it closed its doors in 1978. In 1851, Mrrty Haggerty moved into town from Canada with his family and began trading goods he brought over on his boat trip across the Great Lakes while he awaited passage through Ellis Island on his way home from America’s War for Independence (1848-1849). After arriving at Festus he set up a store next door to what is now known as Depot Square which served as a meeting place for early settlers from other towns nearby including Douglasville and Maple Bluff Junction (now Maple Grove). Haggerty later married Sophronia Smith about whom more later… Most importantly though, during this time period some realignment occurred within central Missouri due primarily to political unrest caused by newly formed states such as Kansas City being admitted into the Union without taking into account neighboring slave states like Missouri! This protest movement eventually led directly to Fessenden’s Rebellion & Partitioning Of Missouri (1861), & finally Reconstruction Era here at home starting with Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation four years later! So much For Unification Under One Roof….

Festus was founded in 1810 by James Fenton, a fur trader. The town grew quickly and soon became the center of the fur trade in Missouri. In 1828, Festus was renamed St. Louis after King Louis XV of France. The city experienced rapid growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s, thanks to its location at the crossroads of three major railroads.
