In 1840 an addition were added onto this building eastward on Randolph Street which housed courtroom storage for criminal cases before being renovated into what is known today as Justice Hall inside Anheuser Busch Brewery Building at 555 West Florissant Avenue where Judge Learned Hand presided over misdemeanors prosecutions from 1914 until his retirement effective December 31st 1978 having held since October 1st 1913 when he became Chief Justice Of The United States Supreme Court following elections held November 3rd 1918 To succeed Associate Justice Felix Frankfurter who had become retiring upon reaching 80 years old after serving since January 16th 1915 With Harry Blackmun becoming Associate Justice concurrent with Hand’s retirement On May 8th 1948 Edward Mudd became Clerk Of The Circuit Court And later First Deputy District Attorney For Jefferson City And served concurrently with Harry Blackmun From 1967 until 1971 United States Atty General Robert Haines took over As First Deputy District Attorney The original town plat included 4 blocks north of present day Randolph street between Florissant avenue eastbound on I-635/I-64 Business Interstate Expressway (now US 61) then southwesterly along current day Jefferson Boulevard eastbound to SR 56 just past Dutchtown Lake

Ferguson is home to the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and many local businesses and services. The community has been affected by racism and violence throughout its history, with rates of crime highest among African Americans. The first Europeans to visit Ferguson were French explorers in 1764. In 1812, Colonel John Brown led a group of soldiers from Missouri into what is now Ferguson during the Bleeding Kansas War against Kansas Territorial Governor James Kossuth. Brown's men shot and killed many people before being driven out by the military. In 1821, General James Kossuth surrendered at Ft Sumter after a three-month siege that ended with over 140 deaths on both sides. This event marks the end of white rule in Missouri and begins stage two of Native American domination over Ferguson area residents: raiding parties continued until 1827 when treaties were made between the United States government and various tribes culminating with land purchases from the Shawnee Nation for $15 per acre (about £8/$10). As white settlers arrived in greater numbers in central Missouri following these treaties, they began purchasing large tracts of land around present day Ferguson for cultivation or development purposes including what is now known as "The Strip." By 1830 one settler had bought 1/4 mile (1 kilometer) wide strip along FM 1960 east of Parnell Avenue for $500 (). In 1830 there were only 10 families living within ten miles (16 kilometers) of downtown on campus property; within 5 years all but one family had departed or moved away because of harsh weather conditions (−25 degrees Celsius [−3° Fahrenheit]), soil exhaustion (), Indian raids (), or concerns about white encroachment (). Thereafter much movement took place across city limits towards new neighborhoods established closer to churches () or business districts (). Ferguson was annexed by St. Louis County in 1836 following an act by President Andrew Johnson that designated part of St. Louis as a slavery-free zone due to political correctness reasons related to then current debates surrounding black voting rights nationwide (). As part as this annexation process new schools started opening up throughout town – infants’ school started up on Main Street near present day Thomas Road in 1840 (), high school opened up on Webster Avenue near Montrose Road () and a normal public school opened up on Euclid Avenue just north of Old Fort Parkway (). These schools helped integrate more recent arrivals into traditional society where opportunities existed for education (); however some residents experienced social discrimination which continued until well into the 20th century .
